Daddy gifts for baby shower?

So we are having 2 different baby showers and both are going to be co-ed. I wanted it to be that way because this is our first LO (for both of us) and he has been so supportive and has gone to every single dr apt. I feel like baby showers are all about the mommy and baby so I was thinking about doing something special for my DH to open at the showers. The first one will be Nov. 17th(my family and local friends) and I was thinking of doing a "daddy-to-be survival kit" filled with things for him after the baby was born. Our second one will be Nov. 24th (his family and friends in Pittsburgh) and I was thinking of doing a "hospital survival kit" filled with things specially for him for the hospital. Is anyone else getting their DH something special if they are going to be at the shower?

Re: Daddy gifts for baby shower?

  • I've seen a few great ideas for daddy survival kits on Pinterest.  I'm trying to find them now but of course I'm having no luck.  What a great idea for the shower.  I was thinking of making one for DH for the hospital, I'm just starting to get a list together of what to put in it.

  • That's a super cute idea!

My DH wants NOTHING to do with my showers! ha! He wants to be as far away from them as possible... He hates being the center of attention.

However, I may steal the hospital survival kit idea to thank him for all he's done to make things easier now that I'm on bed rest.

  • At our shower with DD, DH received a Daddy Diaper Bag and some ear plugs.

It was the cutest thing and DH really enjoyed something that was meant to be for him only.

  • Just my opinion but my first thought it that, while maybe that's cute, I'd give it to him another time.  The shower, traditionally, is about the baby and baby gifts, not gifts for dad.  (And is he the one giving birth?)  Again, just my opinion.  My husband has been to every appt with me, too (and this is our second baby).  He's involved in the pregnancies... but it still doesn't mean he has a huge desire to be at a cutesy baby shower.

  • My husband won't be at the shower, but I'm getting him a bunch of dad-friendly baby things. He's a Packers fan (I'm not), so lots of baby Packer gear, camo things, etc.

Yeah, my DH couldn't care less about the baby shower.

  • I was going to make my H a special hospital bag to take with us full of his favorite movies (he can watch during down times), candy/snacks, itunes gift card (so he can download some new music to listen to), some gun/car magazines (he never buys them but loves to look at them when he can), a ton of loose change for the vending machine, a new pair of slippers he can wear around the hospital...and I'm still trying to think of a few other items to put in there.

The verdict is still out if the shower hosted by his side of the family is going to be co-ed or not, but if it is, one of his aunts is going to do a daddy-survival kit. Actually, she said she might do it anyway because she has found so many great ideas.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  • I registered for a daddy diaper bag for him but other than that, he couldn't care less. He did ask if we were able to register for beer though.

Same here. My DH is kind of shy, and both of families traditionally have all-female showers anyway.

FI asked if we could register for bullets at Walmart because he likes to go shooting...

  • My DH will only show up to help load the gifts after the shower, but I ordered him a Daddy Diaperbag Backpack and a Daddy Swag gift pack at www.daddyscrubs.com (It has a pair of scrubs, tshirt, ball cap, and coffee mug that all say "I'm the Daddy" ) This way he can feel included and part of the baby shower experience, since he is not going to get all excited about the cute little outfits and such like I will. lol Plus, I figured it is a good time to give him his own special diaper bag. I love the fact that will will wear/use all of it proudly because he is excited about being a Daddy again :)

  • I think the plan for my shower is to have it at a local restaurant with a small separate bar...so dh can have a beer while watching a game but he can pop in for a special gift my mom got him...(baby gear from dh's college)

Ha! My DH asked if he could get a shot gun so he'd be prepped for when potential boyfriends come over. I had to remind him that he had a while before he was going to need to threaten any boys. :-p

  • A hospital survival kit for Dad seems odd to me. Is this a new phenomenon via Pinterest? My husband brought a pillow and blanket...I really don't see the need for much else. He went home for showers, and to change clothes. I don't know...to each their own, I suppose.
