Those with DCs of 18 months plus - please come in

Did your DC start having much heavier diapers at this point (17-18 mos) ?

I don't know if he's going through a growth spurt and just drinking a lot more now or if this is just a normal time for them to wet more during the night, but his diapers have been incredibly heavy/wet for the past week and we might have to switch to the overnight kind of diapers if this keeps going.

Any thoughts please?

  • Yeah, sometimes Colton enjoys drinking a little too much! ?I try to watch his drinking intake and change is diaper more often accordingly. ?At night, you can cut down on how much he drinks before bed and you can also try going up a size in diapers, sometimes they have a better ability to absorb more when you go up a size.

  • DD actually stays dry most nights and then soaks her diaper w/ in an hour of getting up.
  • I didn't notice a distinct change. But some mornings she does have really heavy diapers.  Has he been drinking a lot more?  Or sick?  Both of those can affect the diaper output.
  • YEEEESSSSSSSS! Glad it's not just us. Jack has woken up a couple mornings completely soaked (which hasn't happened since he was little little). I think i remember one solution is putting a maxi pad in their diaper (weird, i know). BUT, jack's diaper seems to be the most heavy in the front, it doesn't evenly disperse.

lemme know if you come up w/ a solution!

  • Okay,  now I am worried about why DD isn't wetting at night.
    Is she drinking enough?  Ugh.
    When does the worry stop?

That is the same exact situation we're in. His PJs were soaked through yesterday to the point where we threw everything in the crib in the wash, and yes, it all accumulates in the front of the diaper. Hmm..a maxi pad, eh? Would that be uncomfortable for them though?

Thanks for all the responses, Ladies.

Abrooks - He is drinking more during the day it seems, but he hasn't been sick in quite a while.

Buttercup - It sounds like if she's soaking her first diaper, that might be the main difference then? But I totally understand about the worry. It never seems to end, does it  :-)

We go in to see the pedi for his 18-month checkup on Monday so I'll ask him then and report back.

Exactly!  It seems that it must be coming out in larger volumes since it's so concentrated in one area.

Oh, don't worry--be happy :)  Seriously--that's about the age that my DS would start waking up dry too, and I would just sit him on the potty first thing in the morning.  He would (almost) always pee--and I really think that helped his potty training.

I wanted to chime in and say that I know my sister spent much of her toddler years with a maxi pad in her diaper.  My mom was all about "doubling up".
