Adoption

First home visit done!

And I may be nursing a glass of wine.

I know it wasn't "that bad" but I literally felt stressed all day. The waiting was horrible, the actual meeting was pretty ok, the minute it was over though, everything unclenched and I felt like I wanted to pass out. Now that its over I feel like I won't panic as much next time.

  • Congrats!  I just had my first home visit on Tuesday and I felt the same way.  As soon as I closed the door behind the social worker, I couldn't decide if I wanted a celebratory glass of wine, or if I just wanted a nap! :)

    Oh congratulations!

What did she look at? (If you don't mind me asking).

    Enjoy your wine!

This visit she really didn't look at anything, it was more meet and greet.  She sent us and our references questionairs about us and how we grew up, and it was mostly us elaborating on our answers.  We discussed family members, the good and the bad, how/where we grew up, our jobs, our beliefs, our families opinions on adoption...just everything.  At the end of it she wanted to know about our infertility struggles and losses (that part got a bit tough, especially after 2 hours of answering questions).  She seemed very sweet and eager to meet us, she was very excited about our dogs, and we were only in the kitchen/dining room, but we have a pretty open floor plan and she commented on how nice our house/neighborhood was.

We have another interview/meeting at the agency next week, and the final walk through on the 30th.  I am assuming then is when she will look at stuff.

  • What a relief to get the first visit out of the way!  Hopefully you won't be so stressed with the next one.  Congratulations, that's a pretty big step to complete Smile
