If your baby was diagnosed with reflux..

Lily has been fighting eatting since yesterday. She arches her back after eatting an ounce and fights me. She then tries to eat more but gets really mad. I try to burp her often and she does but it doesnt seem to help. She spits up alot when eatting and after. I called the pedi and their response was to call in a prescription for Zantac. i would rather not give her meds yet. Was this your response when first diagnosed? The pedi hasnt even seen her. I would rather try rice cereal first as I have read that coul help. Tell me your experiences please.

    yup. zantac was prescribed first for us

    DS was prescribed Zantac first. It really worked for him. I think they don't do rice cereal unless it's a bad case of reflux. I'm not sure on that though.

    Zantac was prescribed to us first. It really helped him. Dr Brown bottles really helped too.

    In Lo's case, pedi recommended rice cereal and if that didn't work he said to go with Zantac. I am using a formula that contains rice starch which helps a lot with spit up cause it makes the formula thicker. Besides that, I am giving him Zantac to help with the pain.

    Yep we did Axid first (similar to zantac) once they wasn't helping we did Axid with rice cereal in bottle then things got better but then worse again. So now we do rice cereal in bottle and he takes Prevacid and is one happy baby!

    My pedi actually suggested the rice cereal before prescribing the zantac.  She was very young (like one month old) when we had to do this too, I was EPing and mixing BM with the cereal.  Then they added the Zantac but she still is having some problems, mostly all of the signs you are describing.

    I am wanting to try the rice cereal before giving her meds. She'll be 4 months in a couple of weeks anyway. We FF so would I just mix it with the formula and feed it to her through the bottle? How do I know how much to use?

    What does "silent" reflux mean? Should I try the spoon or just give it to her with the bottle?
