G's bday is next week and we are having a very small family gathering. We are doing turkey sandwiches and meatballs, and cake, but what else??? I am sick of every side dish I usually make and can't think of a single thing. Thoughts? Ideas? Help!
I substitute the cherries for craisins and I use chicken instead of turkey. It is always a big hit at my parties. (it turns out too if you don't have champagne vinegar and have to use white vinegar)
My friend always makes a really yummy veggie "pizza". Its just rolled out crescent dough that you bake then when it's cool you spread cream cheese on it and sprinkle chopped peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, whatever veggies you like. It's always a hit. If you're doing meatballs you could try cooking them in a spicy tomato jelly for something different. This is a favorite of mine and you could leave out the sausage and people could eat the meatballs over it. I would use the kidney beans instead of the lima beans.
Pasta salad (I add chopped onion, peppers, and olives to the pasta and toss with mayo, a little cider vinegar, lots of garlic-herb seasoning, a little salt and pepper - yummy and easy!)
Thanks, all! I'm leaning toward the veggie pizza idea for sure and we'll see what else.
Blu-Eyed: Just standard Grandma's meatballs - onion, cracker, hamburger, salt, egg, milk, pepper combo and the sauce is ketchup, white vinegar, brown sugar, worstershire sauce (can't spell), chili powder and water
Okay, so with that meatball dish, another good side might be something like rolls/bread with a dip of some kind - spinach, veggie or spinach artichoke. And some cheese would work well also.
Re: N(ot really) BR: Sick of side dishes
we did mac & chz. & it seemed to be a hit!
D'amico and son's pasta salad (amazing!)

I would do a green salad and something with fruit (fruit pizza, fruit salad, etc.)
Talk to me about those meatballs - are they swedish meatballs? bbq meatballs? grape jelly meatballs? or your classic Italian meatballs?
