"Only" green poop?

Hi ladies,

I notice that a lot of you on the dairy free diet have LOs who were pooping green.  My little guy (EBF) has been pooping green for over a month and the Dr. says that if he is healthy and happy and gaining well then she's not worried.  But that doesn't stop me from worrying!  Anybody else's LO have green poo and no other symptoms of allergies etc?  Were your doctors concerned?

Man, those green mucousy diapers are gross!

Thanks :)

  • Thanks for your response :)

He usually poops about 4-5 times, but most of them are pretty small. The big morning poo is usually yellow, weird huh?

He's gaining a TON of weight, like over a pound a week.

  • If LO is breastfed, it sounds like oversupply too.

  • My LO is formula fed and has green poops.  She poops 2-3 times per day and it varies from avocado green to lime green.  I'm going to ask the pedi at our next appointment but she seems like a healthy happy baby.

Agree, your kid is adorable!  And my understanding is that green is totally normal in FF babies :)

The LC I spoke to doesn't think that this is the issue, but I did have issues with oversupply and overactive letdown when I was first BFing so I think it's still a possibility.

  • I also have an EBF only green pooper. Doctor isn't concerned, but of course that doesn't stop me from worrying about it. I've looked into oversupply issues and don't think it is that. I am avoiding major sources of dairy but that was recommended by the Dr for his gas issues better now. I plan on asking about it again at his 4 month appointment and may ask for testing to see if there is blood like the other poster.

  • The mucous would bother me. Try cutting out soy in addition to the dairy for a month (it can take that long to get out of your system).  Earth Balance makes a good enough margarine that is soy free. I sub hemp milk for whole milk and rice milk for lower fat milks.  I had to give up soy lecithin and soybean oil, but some people with an intolerance are ok with them.

  • Rob has green poop sometimes. I think it's something in the formula.

  • Another green pooper here.  Two doctors actually saw the dirty diapers and thought nothing of it.  Of course, reading stuff online makes you worry like crazy.  DD has been gaining weight and happy so I've tried to stop worrying about it.  It's green, it's yellow, it's watery, it's seedy.  POOP IS STRESSFUL!  Doctors said as long as it's not black or red, it's fine.

Thank you.  This is what my Dr. says but then you go online and YIKES.  I'm doing my best to find out what I can but not stress out, especially if the Dr, LC, and nurses I've spoken to are all unconcerned.

Good luck with your lil green poop machine :)
