Diagnose my coffee pot

We have a Cuisineart coffee maker that's about 2 years old. DH has been complaining that the coffee doesn't taste good. He's been going to Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks almost daily.

I cleaned it out with vinegar and did a rinse with water. I even cleaned the basket with a qtip to get in the grooves. I use filtered water. I even tried weaker or stronger coffee. We used the same type of coffee for years. It's Starbucks house blend. When I make it in the french press it tastes fine. Should I buy another coffee maker? I'm not tasting the difference, but I use creamer, so who knows...

If you're suggesting buying another coffee maker, what type?

Re: Diagnose my coffee pot

  • Did you let the vinegar rinse cycle through and sit in the carafe for about 15 minutes? You need to run a few cycles of just water after that.

That would be the problem with me.

I have a Cuisinart coffee maker although we don't use it anymore now that we have a Keurig.  It seems fine after cleanings though. Run water through it a few more times and then make a pot and some in the french press and make your H do a taste test!

Hmmm...don't know if I waited enough. I'll have to try it again. Thanks!

We thought about getting a Keurig, but we make a pot or two daily. Plus, DH likes it iced, so fresh coffee is not really mandatory.

  • Are you buying pre-ground coffee? I would buy the whole bean and either have it ground (take it to any SBucks, they will do it) or if you have a grinder, only grind what you need at a time. Also, its important that you use the correct grind setting for the type/shape of your filter.

And I would run water through it every few days.

A woman's life is nine parts mess to one part magic, you'll learn that soon enough...and the parts that look like magic turn out to be the messiest of all.
  • I have the Cuisinart and the Keurig, I like both. Dis you replace the filter on your Cuisinart? I also vote for grind your own, i figured out what grind worked best with mine, but it took a bunch of tries.
  • I had the same problem with Cuisinart coffee pot. I thought the coffee tasted terrible. I did vinegar rinses, and even got the coffee pot cleaner. It did not help. I got keurig and the damn thing stopped working a month after the warranty expired. I went back to my trusty Mr. Coffee maker. I love it, it makes better coffee than any other coffee pot I have had.
