woah, that was expensive!

DH just switched jobs a few weeks ago, so we aren't quite on benefits yet. I'm super glad we live in Canada and doctor appointments are covered...BUT!

I just filled a prescription for diclection - over 150$ for les than a months worth! ...the last two pregnancies we've had awesome benefits that have covered everything. I was not expecting that bill...and I had to get some penecillin too for strep for me, and an ear infection for DS.  hooray....

I cannot wait for benefits to kick in!

  • My benefits cover 100% prescription costs so I'm lucky there. I agree though, it's great not having to worry about hospital or doctor bills at all.

  • Zofran is even worse - I had them only fill the diclectin because it's less than something like 10$ a pill!  I'm supposed to take up to 4 diclectin a day...so... it's super needed in my case as I'm borderline HG again. :( booo.  thankfully Canada also has a low-income presciption coverage for kids and pregnant women - I just sent in the application and I should get it in a week or so. (DH hadn't had a 'real' job for over 7 months...the people he was working for kept having small jobs [construction based] but never enough to keep him even part time.  He just got a real job that we can actually pay rent now!!)

  • Move to the US, everything healthcare related is expensive.  And surprising!  I have health insurance and it will still probably cost us at least 3000 in prenatal care plus a couple thousand more for the l&d.  It's disgusting...

I was talking to a midwife and she said that the reason diclection is so expensive is because it's trademarked so they can ask whatever they want for it. I went to get my prescription and they didn't have our up to date insurance card and our bill was around $100 or so. I promptly gave her my card and asked her to try the bill again! It's crazy!

Can you keep your receipts and try sending them away and see if they pay for them. We did this with my chiropractor bill and we were lucky and they covered it. Good luck!
