We're in the process of weaning E from her bottles, and has been doing well with sippy cups at daycare. I noticed on her "my day" sheets from daycare that they're usually giving her milk with her meals. This seems a little counterintuitive to me. I was giving her water with meals and milk at other times.
How do you guys do it now that the kiddos are drinking from sippys? Do they still have special times for milk or do they just take it with meals?
Re: s/o weaning from bottles...
I offer milk in a straw cup with her meals and snacks. She still nurses when she wakes up in the morning and before bed.
Since giving her milk, I have kind of struggled with when I am supposed to give her water vs milk. Sometimes I offer water, sometimes milk at meals. I am worried she isn't getting enough water since I have been trying to offer milk more.

I had commented on the post about a week ago about maybe going cold turkey. Gator loves her bottles and loves her sippy cup....with only water. She was doing four bottles a day, but refused to drink milk out of her sippy.
i ended up cutting out bottles during the daytime cold turkey, putting milk straight into her sippy and she gets it at each meal. It can take her all day to finish about 6 ounces. She still gets her nighttime bottle before bed. It took her about a half a day before she got thirsty enough to give in to having milk in her sippy.
She is actually still on formula. But I feel that since she hardly drinks anything, she can have milk all day long. I just make sure she eats some before I hand her the sippy so I know she is getting actual food before drinking.
In whole milk, there is over 80% water. So if you are doing milk, I wouldn't be too worried about not getting enough water.

This is exactly why I posted. I'm not sure what the milk to water ratio is supposed to be. Should I be pushing the milk for nutrition or the water for hydration???
as I mentioned above, whole milk is over 80% water. Why, if she is still drinking, would you be worried about not getting enough water? Say she drinks 10oz of milk a day, 8oz(or more) of that is water.
I guess its just a mental hang up. If I'm thirsty, I don't want milk - I want water. Plus, the WCM has been making E constipated, so I thought adding extra water might help.
i have talked to Gator's pediatrician about it before summertime because I was worried about the heat and getting dehydrated. He said as long as she was drinking breastmilk, formula, or milk....she was perfectly fine because they are all so high in water content.
Mine in similar. Reese gets a bottle when she wakes and before bed. She gets milk/formula with meals in a straw cup and a water cup is always around for her to drink whenever. It's working for us. I do notice she doesn't drink much milk with meals. She would rather eat. I'm curious as to how much milk they should be getting in a day?

I guess my answer is here... Reese definatley does not drink 20oz of milk. It's maybe 15oz.

My doctor said 16oz a day, so Reese doesn't sound that far off.
