My 1st U/S today just made me more nervous!

I am 6w6d and went for my first transvaginal u/s today. This is my third, so it caught me off guard when the Dr couldn't find a HB today and I was sent home empty handed (no picture). It was really hard for me to see anything except the sac but my DR. said it was probably due to my c-section scarring and he ordered a follow up u/s for next week. In the meantime, I am getting my hormone levels tested for the next 48 hrs. I'm sick to my stomach but not sure if it's m/s or stress! I need some good news!

  • That's scary.  Any chance you're earlier than you think?

  • Did you measure 6w6d?

Perhaps you O'd later than you think and it's too early on for a HB?

The first time I went in, all we saw was an empty sac. 9 days later we were in for our second and we saw a healthy HB. It's amazing what a few days can do.

  • It is likely too early, but I'm sorry you're stressed about it. :( I understand how scary it can be. My FX for you!

  • Dr. did say that it's possible that I could have ovulated a little later but I know for sure my first day of last period is correct so I can't be too far off. He didn't do measurements either. With my last two, I was 7 1/2 & 8 weeks pregnant when I went for first time so a couple more days would probably have spared me this stress. I'll have an update on Thursday!
  • I think it's just too early.
  • It's very possible that its just too early. I went to my first u/s thinking I was 8 weeks and fully expecting to hear that little heart beating. I left measuring only 5 weeks and barely saw a little bean. Sometimes our dates are off and everything is perfectly normal! hugs

  • I completely understand your paranoia.  My u/s today (at 6wks) only showed a sac and a yolk sac, no baby no HB.  I, too, go in for another u/s in 1 week.  I keep trying to remind myself that everybody and every baby is different and things progress a little differently, especially this early on.  Let's just pray our next visit brings us some relief.  I WISH my Doc would have ordered me more blood draws, but they seem to think everything is looking good so far so no reason.

  • I'm right there with you. I had the same experience on Monday. I was supposed to be 6w1d and they were only able to visualize the sac, no yolk, no heartbeat. I'm scheduled for my next ultrasound on Friday - he assured me 4 days would be enough time to see something, if there's anything to see. It's so hard to stay positive, but we have to! Good luck, keep us updated!

  • ****update***

went for 2nd u/s today.  Tried transvaginal & didn't work so we saw it better on abdominal ultrasound. Dr was able to get hb of 120 but baby was measuring 6w3d and not 7w6d ( calculation by my first day of my lmp date). I'm assuming I ovulated later and that is the reason for the 1 1/2 week difference? Calculating this stuff really confuses me so I looked up my ovulation calendar and according to it, I could have ovulated as late as Sept. 20  and my pregnancy test was positive on Sept. 29th. Dr. does not seemed concerned, and I definately feel pregnant w/ experiencing every symptom mentioned on this board. lol. Thank you ladies for listening to my thought process. To conclude, I'm not as far along as I thought. I get a follow up u/s in two weeks, and I think that is when I will tell my family the good news.
