I want a car seat that has the least amount of chemicals/carcinogens possible but is also safe for baby. I've looked at the Orbit but some ppl say it's really deep and babies have a hard time looking out of it. I've also looked into an organic seat cover but someone told me that covers void warranties. Is this true? What are your suggestions/recommendations for car seats?

Re: Infant car seat recommendations plz
Flame retardants are very important, if you should get into an accident and your car caught on fire then the retardants would delay the child from catching fire too. Aftermarket covers are against the manufacturer's guideline for this very reason and if you live in a proper use state then they're illegal.
I'm all for living as toxic free as possible but this is one area where the safety benefit completely trumps any risk that exposure might cause.
Actually, while flame retardant may be important, you do have choices as to what kinds of chemicals are used, and there are car seats that pass federal flame retardant standards that don't use all the dangerous chemicals. I have been researching this a lot for the last couple of days.
I read that the two best companies to buy from were Orbit Baby and Britax. Then I read this report that GRACO was also committed to not using 4 of the worst chemicals. However, when I contacted GRACO to find out when the car seats without the 4 chemicals would be available (because they did a big press release in June to make it sound like this was a new policy), they just said "oh we've never had evidence that our suppliers use those chemicals." That seemed kind of vague to me. Anyway, you can read more here:
