Pregnant after 35

PG>35 Weekly Check In! Come on in!

So I've figured out that the extra code appearing at the beginning and end of the check-in post is because Word has everyone's info stored in table format. Unfortunately, unless I re-copy it all manually, I can't seem to get rid of the table coding, so I beg your indulgence. Please just skip over it and continue merrily on your way. The thread's a little late because we had so many wonderful new check-ins last week! If I omitted anyone or mis-typed any dates, please let me know. Ready? It's time for...the PG>35 Weekly Check-In!!

  • QOD:  I haven't bought a thing yet (and I need everything!).  The last 2 wks I just started putting thoughts around what her nursery will look like.

I have had a very hard time not going crazy with the shopping but haven't made any major purchases.  I am *planning* on waiting until  after the holidays to see what we might get as gifts/hand-me-downs.

I have about 7 or 8 totes full of kids clothes that my sister generously donated to me. Before I was even pregnant, I purchased a newborn outfit that is a replica New Zealand All Black rugby kit (complete with socks that look like cleats!) and a little bib that says "I'll have a bottle of the house white" and a picture of a baby bottle.

My latest vent is that my employer sucks @ss. Any genetic testing whatsoever is not covered by my insurance (my employer's choice, not the insurance company's). I work for a hospital that employs a majority of women-- you'd think that they would cover something like genetic testing. You'd think they would know that it will less expensive in the long run for them if they know ahead of time if I'll need any specialty equipment or treatment at the birth. Apparently, however, they don't want me to get to the birth (they don't cover my progesterone suppositories-- not even partially-- despite the fact that I'm a higher-risk pregnancy because of my age and previous chemical).

    I hate my employer.

On a happier note: my migraine is gone!

Don't feel bad--so far I have acquired exactly one onesie. But I just borrowed Baby Bargains from the library and am taking copious notes.

Oh, no, the flu! So sorry you had to suffer through that. On the bright side, at least you're immune now...

How wonderful that you already have lots of baby clothing! I envy you. You're a fan of the New Zealand All-Blacks, eh? They figured rather prominently in the movie "Invictus" (have you seen it? I bet you'd like it despite the fact that the All-Blacks don't win the World Cup).

I am so sorry your employer sucks donkey balls. Boo employer. Angry But yay for your migraine being gone!! (Seriously, Fioricet. You heard it here first.)

Haven't purchased anything major, but have planned out where/when to buy nursery items and have already registered. A neighbor and my BFF have given me some big ticket items, I was just waiting to transfer them to the house- Pack and play, bouncy seat, swing, car seat, stroller.

Does this mean you've already decided what specific brands of things you want to buy? (My head is spinning trying to learn about all the STUFF.) Where did you register? How awesome that you are getting many of the big ticket items from your neighbor and BFF! Looks like a crib is the only big thing left!

Not only did I see the movie, but I remember the actual World Cup that year. I had such a huge crush on the main character, Fran?ois Pienaar, from the movie (the one that Matt Damon played). And that was the World Cup that Jonah Lomu made his debut in-- and he wowed the entire rugby world with his crazy athleticism.

That was an amazing World Cup that year-- gave me goosebumps then and even now, all those years later, when I watch the highlight reels and my old VHS tapes of the matches!

On another note-- it would appear that a handful of us all have appointments on the 22nd! I have my first U/S then!

I'm still early (9 weeks today) so I don't have the guts to buy anything yet.  Assuming I make it past the CVS with good results, we'll probably buy the cribs and changing tables sooner rather than later.  Also I may be put on bedrest later with twins so I may need to get my baby shopping and registry done sooner than usual.  Right now I don't know where to start!

  • QOTW:
I still have most of the major stuff from DD, so what we'd really needed was just clothing (very few neutral clothing to go from girl to boy) and the usual disposables. First thing I did pick up was a cap/gown outfit to take him home in since I wanted to start the hospital bag a little early.
Though for the amusement of early kid gifts, my sister had insisted we hold on to a TMX Elmo (in fancy trunk). She gave it to us about 18 months before we were pregnant with DD insisting that we were planning having kids. We still have it. DD still thinks the robotic toy is a riot from time to time

    Updates/Vents:
Down to weekly visits now. Next one is this Friday. This past one showed minimal dilation and so far everything looking to be on track.
Had a fun family weekend with DH and DD, but lots of walking (between an orchard and the zoo) wore me out.
Finally, just for amusement, found out another coworker is now pregnant (due in June). This makes three of us in a 10 person office. What are the odds? Party!!!

(also, if you want to get rid of the table formatting, you could try saving the DOC file to TXT, and then back. You'd have to reset the italic and bold/underline formatting on the month headings, but it should then get rid of the coding. Smile)

I hear you about "stuff" and have a confession: talks about baby "stuff" bores me to tears and I find it a lot to handle.

My BFF and a few other friends have been full of helpful advice. So, they have pointed me in the right direction. Not that I haven't done my own homework, but they have definitely made my job a LOT easier! Not to mention, my mom, who has nannied all of my 5 nieces, throws her .02 in there as well. :)

My BFF gently encouraged me to go to BRU with her one day and we just went aisle by aisle putting together my registry. As I learn about new things, do more research, I "finesse" my list. No one knows it's out there yet and I have time to tighten it up add/subtract things we may or may not really need.

  • QOTD: The only thing that I have purchased is a Bruce Springsteen onsie from the concert that we went to.  I was going to order the crib yesterday but I was so swollen that I could not walk.  I have everything picked out, I just need to actually buy it.

Update/vent: Good news, DH bought me a half baked gift.  Bad news, it was sensible shoes since none of my heels fit.  I was really hoping for jewelry.  Dh is taking a week off work to finish the nursery next week while I am out of town so that I am not around the paint fumes.

    I am now team pink.

I just borrowed the Baby Bargains book from the library and am already finding it tremendously helpful. People have advised me to focus on one item at a time, do my research on it, make a few top picks, and only then move on to researching another item. I think I do have my crib and crib mattress picked out, so that's something.

Good luck with your u/s and be sure to let us know how it goes!!

Smile)

You are really in the home stretch now with your weekly visits! That must be so exciting! Congrats to your co-worker, but I think maybe your employer should have the water at your office checked. Wink And thanks for the formatting tip--I will try it for next week's post and see if it works!

QOTD: The only thing that I have purchased is a Bruce Springsteen onsie from the concert that we went to.

A Bruce Springsteen onesie--that is AWESOME! Yay on having everything picked out, boo on being too swollen to order it. And a BIG Party!!! for your baby GIRL! Congratulations!

My BFF gently encouraged me to go to BRU with her one day and we just went aisle by aisle putting together my registry. As I learn about new things, do more research, I "finesse" my list. No one knows it's out there yet and I have time to tighten it up add/subtract things we may or may not really need.

This is actually what DH and I did before DD was born. We actually tested out a bunch of the display models and marked down those we liked and then went home to research any that might have horrible reviews or warnings and then took 'em back off the list.

I hear you about "stuff" and have a confession: talks about baby "stuff" bores me to tears and I find it a lot to handle.

I am so relieved I'm not the only one. I really don't get the whole matchy-matchy thing, for example. The baby doesn't care if everything is color-coordinated, so why should I? A friend is giving me a dresser, I'm going with an IKEA crib, and I am trolling Craigslist for a glider. Done. (At least with furniture.)

QOTW: For those who are further along, what was the first major acquisition you made for baby? For those who are earlier in their pregnancies, have you bought anything for baby yet? If so, what?

I'm still early (9 weeks today) so I don't have the guts to buy anything yet.  Assuming I make it past the CVS with good results, we'll probably buy the cribs and changing tables sooner rather than later.  Also I may be put on bedrest later with twins so I may need to get my baby shopping and registry done sooner than usual.  Right now I don't know where to start!

Share your updates and vents:  I have my weekly u/s tomorrow morning and then my first OB intake appointment in the afternoon.  7 more days of PIO shots!!

A lot of people swear by baby bargains and lucie's list but they were just not for me.  I bought an online subscription to consumer reports and I found that much more helpful.  I felt like it had more fact and less emotion with it.

Since we have a two year old who has already transitioned into his 'big boy' bed we hope to recycle all of the furniture, toys, strollers, etc.... We will have to purchase a car seat a ways down the road.

OB stopped weekly u/s, so the next appt is our NT scan on November 2nd.  So over the all day morning sickness. Zofran has me constipated beyond belief no matter the amount of water I drink. Could I just skip to the nesting portion of this pregnancy Confused

Does a doppler count? Meh, probably not, but it was a huge step for me. After 4 great u/s in 3 weeks, I finally had the guts to order a doppler on Friday. I haven't bought anything else.

    Share your updates and vents:

First OB intake appointment is in two days!

My only vent is that I feel like I'm coming down with something and it's just teasing me. I wake up every morning feeling ok, and by the afternoon I feel like I've got the flu with body aches and chills, but there's no fever. This has been going on for 4 days now, and my lungs hurt, too. It's the same kind of stinging ache, that sets off a coughing fit when I take a deep breath, that I would get when I've had repetitive pneumonia before. I don't want to get sick, but by the same token, I'm getting frustrated with the 'am I or aren't I' routine.

Hmm, it sounds like you should maybe get that checked out. Maybe your body is (so far) successfully fighting something off, but maybe it is something else.

Big Party!!! for your OB intake appointment!

Yes  for being able to recycle almost everything from baby #1. I envy you not having to do all that research. However, the Ick! sounds horrid. I hope next week you'll be able to report that your m/s has receded somewhat!

QOTW: No purchases yet.  Waiting to find out the sex at the anatomy scan in a few weeks. We've checked out cribs and bedroom furniture, but everything else will be recycled from DS. (Unless of course this is a girl, in which case, I just might lose my mind shopping for girl clothes.)

Update: We leave this weekend for vacation and I can't freaking wait.

Have a great vacation! Have you scheduled your anatomy scan yet--do you have a date to look forward to?

Well the first thing we bought was the crib :)  I just couldn't ask anyone to spend that much money!  We have bought all kinds of things and I think that people who have bought off my registry are not paying attn because they are purcashing things that show PURCHASED lol.  Oh well.  I am 110% thankful for ever gift we receive!

The day before we are leaving on a 10 hour car ride. I'm not looking forward to this trip. My Dad passed away very unexpectedly in August. We are going to my step mom's to help her go through some of his things. I'm not looking forward to being there without my Dad. I'm not getting alot of support from my DH because he would rather spend his fall break golfing. I'm just hormonal and sad this is the first baby I didn't get to share with my Dad. On a positive note we have our first ultrasound before we leave so I get to see my baby tomorrow! Have a great week ladies! JM

Hopefully the duplicates are items that you can use more than one of--if not, I hope the store has a liberal return policy so you can trade the extra stuff in for what you do need!

Sorry about your aches and pains, and yikes for the lack of sleep. I can't say I'm really looking forward to later pregnancy in that respect!

Yes  Thumbs up for having all the gear! As I have lamented already, trying to make heads or tails of all the STUFF is kind of overwhelming me. While walking my dogs, I saw a lady walking a baby in a stroller this morning and I nearly ran after her to ask what kind of stroller she was using. I did notice that it had an infant car seat strapped into it and double wheels on the front end, but wasn't close enough to see the brand. Sad

I'm so sorry about your dad. Going through the things left behind is a necessary but emotionally exhausting task. And what the heck is your DH thinking? No I hope he will come around and support you now when you really need it. At least there is the u/s to look forward to--be sure to update us on how it goes! FX that everything looks great!

  • Hi, there. Brand new to the board.

    SN: 2redtulips
    Due date: May 30, 2013
Sex: We'll be keeping it a secret once we find out

The only thing I have bought so far is one pregnancy book and one parenting book.

I did buy a little hat ages ago when we were deciding whether to try (I was tired of buying gifts for everyone else's babies, so I bought a gift for MY future child).
