1 year Appointment Question

Did everyone get their vaccinations at the 1 year appointment including MMR, Hep A, and Varicella? Did any of your LOs run fevers or sleep a lot (or anything else I should be aware of)? I just wanted to know what to expect since DS is due to get different vaccines than he got in the last year.

Re: 1 year Appointment Question

  • We have yet to get ours.  Our hospital doesn't do all shots in the doctor's office- we have to go to public health in order to get most shots.  We were a little behind on some of our shots from the last set, but we are going to have them all within the next month or two.  I do want to do the flu shot, but I am going to do those shots separately.  I hate that Nora will be poked several times over a period of time rather than all at once, but I just fear the side effects of doing them all at once.

  • DD got four injections:

MMR, Varicella, Flu shot and Pneumococcal vaccine. They gave her tylenol right before the injections and she did fine. She was not excessively tired or cranky and did not get a fever.

I think she got Hep A at 9 months

  • LBB got 4 shots at his appointment - flu, Chicken pox, Hep A, and MMR.  He was fine that day, but ran a low-grade fever (99.6) the next.  Other than that, same as usual.

(According to my doctor, a reaction to all but the chickenpox would show up within 48 hours.  The chickenpox takes up to 2 weeks)

  • I don't remember what all Lo got aside from the flu shot. 4 vaccinations and totally fine.
  • We stagger slightly.  We did Flu and MMR at 12 mos.  We will do Varicella, Hep A, and Flu booster in another month.  And maybe Meningococcal???

She had a high fever a week later that I thought was shot related.  Turned out that she had Roseola.  There was an outbreak at her daycare.  :)

  • Lily got 3 shots (don't remember which exactly, but can check if you want) and was pretty well fine.  She was a little bit sleepier that day, but not any crankier and no fever.  She had a bit of a red bump on one arm just above the injection site that faded into a bruise and then went away, but it never really bothered her.

  • DD got Hep A, Varicella, and MMR. She was tired and ran a fever a couple of days after. She also started daycare, and is having some allergy issues so I'm not sure if any of it was related to shots.

The pedi told us that reactions may be delayed a week to 10 days this time due to the nature of these vaccines.
  • R got 7 shots:  flu, Hep A, Varicella, MMR, and I can't remember what the other 3 were-I have it written down at home.  He had a slight fever for a day but had no reaction otherwise.  I gave him some advil an hour before the shots.

  • Thanks for letting me know how your 1 year appointments went. DS usually has an appointment in the morning then I stay home with him during the day, before he returns to daycare the next day, just to make sure he is OK. He has usually ran slight fevers and tended to sleep more. Today he will have his 1 year appointment at 3:00 and I will probably take him to daycare tomorrow if he is fine. However, his 1 year photo shoot is tomorrow at 4:30 so I am hoping he won't be feeling crappy for it. It looks like most of the LOs did fine except for some slight fevers here and there. Maybe I will just give him some Tylenol or Advil immediately after the shots.
