Well since the skin IS an organ, I sure hope none of our kids get scrapes or cuts because technically, that will be removing an organ just like circumcision is removing an organ!! Give me an effing break, and don't push your views on me. I'm not mutilating or torturing my kid. You do what you want to do, and I'll do what I want to do which is a perfectly normal medical intervention.
And p.s. STUDIES SHOW that circumcised penises have less infections than non circumcised penises. Point blank in the research. You do what you want with that information.
If we have a son, absolutely. It's part of our culture to circumcise and then serve bagels.
I'll know on Oct. 26 if we are.
The day after I found out I was pregnant my mother called to ask where the mohel would be staying if the bris needed to be during Passover.

So are you saying that I cannot post on this message board if I have an opinion that differs from yours? I thought this whole post was a discussion of why or why not to perform circumcision. The original poster asked are you going to do it and why. No one is trying to push their views on anyone else, they are just stating them and the reasoning behind them. And yes, I personally believe it is mutilation. The foreskin isnt just a floppy bit of skin, its purpose is to protect the penis and enhance male pleasure. It's not a mole and I don't understand that comparison. I would think it was also wrong and unnecessary to remove a mole off of a newborn without anesthetic.
And scrapes and cuts happen to all of us by accident, I don't see the logic in your comparison.
If this LO is a boy (team green here), he will not be circumcised. DH isn't, and he doesn't want it for his son(s). I'm letting him make the decision on this one, and he even watched the same Ricki Lake episode with me yesterday. He was a little offended by the unkind comments of uncirc'd penises.

You don't see the logic because I was being sarcastic because the "skin is an organ and your removing an organ" comment was absolutely ridiculous. And a simple "no I don't believe in circumcision" would have sufficed...the people who think it's mutilation and torture didn't really have to say that, because if you don't realize it, it comes off as implying that we are all torturing and mutilating our children. Um, I'm sorry, but I don't take kind to someone accusing me of mutilating my child.
Honestly we haven't really talked about it, but I assume we will if it is a boy. DH is, and it just seems like an obvious yes for us. I'll kind of defer to DH on this one though, so if he surprises me and is against it for some reason, then we probably won't do it.
To be honest, I would rather not, just because I feel like it's not really my right to choose for my son. I do want to say that I don't think there is any real right or wrong decision, and if a woman feels she's doing the best for her son medically or culturally by having him cut, then that's all good. However, DH is adamant that if we have a son, he be circumcised. DH was circumcised as a preschooler due to a lot of infections and complications and he has very clear memories of how awful it was. He would much rather have the circumcision done early before the baby could remember, and not risk that trauma. I feel like the argument between one or the other is close enough and I respect my partner's lived experiences, so if he says we circumcise, I don't see the good in arguing.

My DH was also circumcised later in life due to medical issues. It was in his late teens and has the same feelings that yours does. I don't blame him and don't want my son to deal with the same problems later on. So we are a yes.
DH and I think circumcision, male or female, is GENITAL MUTILATION. Imagine the hood of your clitoris being cut off and how much sensation you would lose. Male foreskins are the equivalent. Think about it.
I am having a boy. We are still undecided but leaning towards yes due to my DH's personal exprience. He was not circumcised at birth because his parents did not feel it necessary or beneficial. He unfortunately had complications as he got older and at 5 years old had to be circumcised. He still remembers the experience (and not in a good way) to this day. Also it took him much longer to heal (almost a month!).

ALL penises look ugly if you ask me!
