Random clicky: What does natural birth mean?

I see badges and hear women talk about "going natural".  Yet the defnitions of natural seem to vary.  What does "going natural" mean to you?[Poll]

Re: Random clicky: What does natural birth mean?

  • I was JUST going to post about this yesterday. Thought it maybe was a UO. People say "natural" when they mean "vaginal", and I feel like it's just because they're afraid to use the V word in normal conversation.

  • Natural (to me) means med-free, vaginal birth with no other unnecessary interventions.

I suspect the same thing. To me "natural" means without pain meds but to be clear about what I mean I say "med-free".

  • I picked the third choice, not because I necessarily agree with it, but my birthing class was a pain management class (taught everything really including lamaze) and the L&D nurse teaching it kept saying "Say it with me ladies, this is 2010 [first baby], I can have a pain free natural birth!".

  • To me it means med free vaginal...minus the rice field :D

  • Yes, I remember those days.. many a woman would stop her work, squat and push for a couple seconds, and out popped a gloriously fat baby. She'd slide it into her back wrap and continue working. Umbilical cord and breastfeeding? That can wait until nighttime.

I chose the first option. That would be the "natural" option to me.. no hospital, no drugs, etc.

  • I chose the 2nd option....but I might make exception for the booze!Stick out tongue
