How much $ did you spend on your wedding dress?

How much did you spend on your wedding dress (including alterations) and would you spend that money again?

I spent $1200 total and I look back and am glad I didn't spend a penny more even though I wanted one that was $5K but I just couldn't do it and I'm glad I didn't!

Re: How much $ did you spend on your wedding dress?

  • About $450.  I would have spent a little more but we were on a tight budget.  Plus, for something that's going to be worn once, I couldn't justify spending big $$.

Oh, and yes.  I'd spend that much again....plus some more (maybe upto a$1000-1500K)!

  • $400ish including alterations.  I loved it, still have it (with intentions of wearing it again at some point), and would spend that again.
  • Ugh, it was probably close to $2k.  The dress itself was like $1400-$1500 but because I'm practically a dwarf, it needed a lot of alterations.  I never ever wanted to spend that much but I had tried on, quite literally, 100 dresses and LOATHED them all.  My mom found this one and I balked at the price, put it on and resigned myself to overspending :-/

  • I spent around $650.  I was not in a position to spend any more than that when we got married.  I wish I had chosen a better seamstress to do alterations, but the dress was exactly what I wanted.
  • About $1200 with alterations. DH had given me a budget of $2500 because he wanted me to find the one that made me feel the most beautiful and then my mom ended up wanting to buy it for me as a gift.

  • $40.  But I got married in a gauzy, white sundress, out in the Black Hills in SD, overlooking a small canyon at sunset.  It rocked.

  • $100 for the dress, and I gave her like $20-$30 extra as a tip because she was awesome and made my dress for so cheap.
  • $450, I don't feel like I compromised looks for price

  • $800 with alterations and everything.  I loved it.  It was a bargain compared to other dresses I liked.

  • $395.

The dress (a plain, un beaded, un-sparkled mermaid silhouette) was actually a bridesmaid dress.  I ordered it in "candlelight" instead of a color.  I got the idea from a "bride on a budget" article I read.  Would buy the same dress again.

  • $700 including alterations.  I'm freakishly tall (6'1) so many of the dresses I liked that were near the top end of my budget (1500) with alterations were putting me closer to 2k which I just couldn't swallow.

  • $75 - we eloped to Savannah so I bought the dress a week in advance. My shoes cost more but they were totally worth it. Hot pink sequined Kate Spade ballet flats. They were about $250 but they are what people actually remember from my pictures.

  • 800 including alterations and adding lace to the bodice so my boobs weren't hanging out.

I don't regret my dress but I do think I spent too much on it. It was simple and perfect for me, but I think it was over priced.

  • I spent $950 I think and the only reason I spent that much was because I used my grandma's inheritance money to buy it.  If I hadn't had that money at my disposal I would have gone for something around $500.

I did love my dress though, so I'm glad I spent what I did!

  • I think it was about $600 (in 1996). I tried on a $1200 one that I loved, but my mom thought it was too expensive (she was paying).

  • $140 when you include my veil and the hoop.  Alterations were free although it really just needed a bustle.

I had given myself a somewhat flexible budget of about $2k and then the dress I chose ended up costing $350. I loved it! The dress is a simple, classic strapless that I wore in ivory.
  • $2500 with no alterations...I got lucky and my dress fit like a glove. Yes I would spend that again because I loved my dress.

  • *flame suit on* about $9k. it was custom, from a pretty expensive store.  i think we spent way too much on our wedding, but i would buy the dress again. i have an odd body, and it fit perfectly.

  • About $450 including alterations and a (very simple) veil.

I loved it; I felt beautiful and sophisticated.

  • $300 with alterations. We bought it 4 days before the wedding and she turned the strapless dress into a halter top-ish dress and added a lace up back. She was a wonder! If I had it to do over, I would probably do the same thing. It's funny cause at the time, I felt bullied a bit, but in the end, I loved it! I still have it.

  • $1100, no alterations needed.

I would not spend that much if I could do it again.  The dress was gorgeous but I tried on other gorgeous dresses for a lot less $.

  • $5K, including muslin, veil, customization, shoes, and preservation.  It's silk, sunburst pleated French net, and handmade lace. A bargain, if you ask me.

I don't regret a cent of it.  It was one of the first purchases we made, and due to that expense, we cut costs elsewhere (brunch wedding, cheap champagne mimosas only, smaller guest list).  My gown and flowers were the most important expenses to me.

  • 500 total with alterations, veil, tiara and jewellery. I got an awesome deal and I loved my dress, even if it's not what I initially pictured wearing.
  • 480 with alterations. It was a gorgeous Casa Blanca dress. I got it from a bridal store going out of business. It was a steal. My regret is not getting it dry cleaned. Ops! It may still have a wine stain on it.

  • I think it was a little over $1,000. The rest of the wedding was crazy expensive, so the dress was where my mom negotiated with me to knock the cost down.
