Home improvements while stimming?

My father has asked me to help paint and/or lay tiles (and who knows what else) in a bathroom he's building in our family's vacation house.  The work needs to be done in October or November.  I could give you about 10 reasons I don't want to participate in this project, but I feel a little guilty about not helping out.  HOWEVER, I have previous commitments for the next two weekends, so the next weekend available is 5-9 days after I start stims.  Is it unrealistic to plan on traveling out of state (5h round trip drive) and do this kind of work at this point in my IVF cycle?  Will I likely be uncomfortable at this point?  Is this too much twisting action?

The other option (other than bowing out) is to help out while PUPO.  Would that be crazy?  I'm not thrilled about the idea of inhaling paint fumes and my father isn't the type to spring for low-VOC paint.

  • I wouldn't do it. It's too much of a risk when you have so much time/money/energy invested. Same thing with being PUPO. Better safe than sorry! Does your father know about the IVF? It sucks to feel like you're bailing on family, but the timing is really bad. Good luck!

He does know, fortunately, so when/if I bail (and I'm leaning toward it), I can at least explain honestly why I'm doing it.  My big frustration with this project is that he kind of expects help with it BUT didn't ask us ahead of time if we were available to help.  October and November are busy months for us even without throwing in IVF, so I would have told him to wait.

    Thanks for your honest response!

  • I would pass too.  I'm on day 5 of stims and I'm sore/bloated enough I can't wear pants comfortably much less be bending and twisting to lay tiles and paint.  Maybe order pizza fom him from your coach and tell him you're there in spirit!  Stick out tongue

  • I wouldn't go. I've had less than perfect monitoring appointments and they've wanted me back the next day to check things out again. So you don't know when you'll have to go back to get checked out. I also started to get uncomfortable around day 6 and I'm not in the mood to go to work, much less do work around the house!
