Trouble with names .. one sex vs. the other

Is anyone else having a hard time thinking-up name possibilities for either sex?

For the life of me, I can't come up with ANYTHING I like for a boy.  And all I need is ONE name b/c all the men in DH's family have the same given (and obviously, last) name .. though I actually think it's harder to fit a middle name in between two others that are already determined.

For a girl, we're all set.  I got creative and ended-up with a unique name that's not too weird, but still has some meaning behind it.  For this reason, I feel like I'm really hoping it's a girl so I can use the name ... because if it's a boy, I feel like DH and I will end up struggling to a) think of something at all, and then b) both agree on it.

I really didn't want to be hoping for one sex or another like this.  But I feel like at this point, it's getting to the point where I'm of the belief we're "meant" to have a girl because it was so easy coming-up with a name for her!  It's going to be quite an adjustment to have to make if we find out it's a boy later this month.

Anyone else really struggling to come-up with a boys vs. girls name?

  • I couldn't come up with anything creative that DH and I could agree on for a boy... so we ended up with DH's suggestion of combining the names of our fathers.  So we have John David (JD).

The girl we were surprised, the name came quite easy.  No siginifigance to it, we just liked it.  Lucy Elizabeth.

But its a boy... so JD it is!

  • I had it easy. We decided that hubby would pick a boys name and I would pick a girls name. No idea on Earth where he came up with the first name, but middle name for a boy is Wayne as that is both our father's middle names.

For a girl, I made up a list of all the names that meant something to the family or sounded pretty. I wound up with 20. I showed hubby the list and together we cut it down to 10 we both liked. Then I polled my family and friends since I equally liked them all. Majority won.

    So now we have:

    Rayland Wayne or Mackenzie Jo

  • I'm with ya! Thank gosh this LO is another boy because girls names for me are so hard! GL with your journey!! I feel too that it's so easy to come up with boys' names and that must be what we were meant to have, lol.

  • DH and I have agreed on one boys name. There were a couple others that we both liked, but cousins or good friends had already used them.

We had a much easier time coming up with a list of girls names.

  • We were team green with our first two... When DD was born I had a hundred boy names I liked and 2 girl names, then when DS was born I only liked 1 boy name, and ended up naming him something completely different in the hospital. This time we found out we're having a girl and I'm not liking much of anything for a name we have two possibilities, so we shall see. I think the only advice I have is don't stress over it, meet your little baby first and go from there! Our kids both weren't named until 24 hours after birth, haha, so we could make sure we really liked the name and it matched the babies face and personality. GL!

  • We're on our third pregnancy and DH and I have yet to come up with a boy's name we like. In fact, I don't have a single boy name I really like at all, let alone one DH and I agree on. The first two we dodged the bullet, this time the tech at the NT guessed boy, we'll find out if she was right next week lol! If so we've got a lot of talking to do. We've never had trouble finding girl names and have 5-6 girl names we agree on at this moment aside from the name we've already chosen if this one is a girl lol!

  • We had a girl's name picked out if this one was a girl even before we got preg this time around. So yeah, I was hoping for another girl just because life would be so much easier lol. But we ended up with a boy and it took a LONG time to come up with a name we both could agree on. Don't rush it. Remember you have 24 hours after baby is born to name him. So you have plenty of time to decide. My cuz didn't name their son until the moment the gal came in to fill out the birth information lol. You will know when you find the name. Like it was meant to be.

  • I know what you mean bc we are in the same boat.  If it's a boy he gets the 3rd generation boys name, first, middle and last and my SO was pretty adiment about that which I was ok with.  But for a girl we got to be creative and by "we" I say I bc since he basically picked the boys name he seemed to give me free reign but I still ask if he likes the 3 I've narrowed it down too.

What name did you come up with?

The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.
  • We had a terrible time deciding on a boy name for DS.  We were stuck again for a boy name so we lucked out with having a girl this time or we probably would have struggled right til the end.

  • We actually had the easiest time with a boy's name and picked it before we even found out we were pregnant! It was Logan Jacob...

BUT we are having a girl and it took us a long time to decide :

    Good luck!

  • We're struggling to come up with both, big time, right now. But with our first we were team green. We had a girl name picked out LONG before a boy name. We didn't really decide on a boy name until I was like 39 weeks. And I love it. :)
