My DD is 2.5 years old, she is 3 ft. 2 in., 40 lbs, size 9 shoe. Her doctor said that he is not yet concerned with her weight because she seems to gain it proportionate to her gain in height and that he will re-evaluate it at her 3 year check up. She is also estimated to reach between 5ft 9-11in. by the time she is 18. Although I am average height, my husbands side of the family is tall, including both my MIL and her mom who both come in at 5ft 10. and my husband is just under 6ft 2.
My DD is very active and I even have her in a baby ballet class. She has a very healthy appetite and eats protein/fruits/ and most vegetables easily. I am extremely cautious not to give her junk food at all. She has only yogurt/fruit for snacks although if we are out running errands for a long time, I will sometimes let her have a treat like goldfish crackers. She has fat free milk with dinner and water the rest of the day. Only on a visit to Grandma's house(twice monthly) does she get a treat of low sugar apple juice.
Compared to other kids, I feel like she is almost deprived of regular kid foods. My neighbor gives her kids sugary cereals like a baggie of fruit loops or lucky charms to snack on, they have capri suns whenever they want and ice cream almost every night for desert, yet they are skinny as rails.
My latest shopping trip for DD has caused some worry for me. I had to buy her size 5 jeans in the "big girl" dept. to fit comfortably around her belly, yet I'll have to chop off 6-8 inches so they actaully fit her legs. This has me worried that if she doesn't start to lean out a bit, she will be teased and tormented by other kids about her weight.
Anybody have a similar situation? I would really like some reassuance or just a pep talk that I'm not the only one.

It sounds like your daughter is well proportioned. These charts will get you crazy!
I just wanted to add that as a young child I had a sizeable tummy, round and just out there! Probably didn't start to slim down until 5 or so. Once my mother was talking to a mother across the street about possibly signing me up for ballet like her daughter and the neighbor's response was something to the effect of, "She does not have the body type for that!" My mother fed me only the healthiest foods same as you do for your DD (I did get juice, but that generation was all about the juice). Anyway, as I got older I started to lean out (average weight now) and as an adult, my tummy and waist have always been my slimest area. So just keep doing what you are doing mama, you are doing great!
I'm VERY concerned with DD1's weight also.
She turned 2 yesterday and weighs 35 Pounds and is 35 Inches tall... a pound an inch!
I'm short as heck 5'1 but her daddy is 6'1 Large Build but Very Muscular...
I was a bean pole growing up until I hit high school then I got some theighs hehe.
He was a thin and a basketball player.
My 7 week old already weighs 12 pounds and was born at 8 lbs..
I guess I just make big babies. Lol.
But I will never forgive myself if my chldren are ever concidered obese.
To OP and pp, take a deep breath, your dd's aren't overweight. It sounds like you're feeding them well and keeping them active. The weight will plateau on the next year, especially as they get even more active. Dd4 is nearly the same weight and height as your dd op, at least proportionately. All my girls were. Take a look in my siggy, they are all extremely active, eat well (and aren't banned from junk food, everything in moderation), and are in the low normal range for their BMI.
We went from not wearing jeans because they wouldn't fit toddler jeans to skinny jeans or regular with the adjustable waist band because their pants wouldn't stay up. Our doctor isn't worried unless the hit the top end of normal on the BMI. And he tends not to look at toddlers, unless the proportion is really off.
She will much healthier regardless of her weight if you are feeding her nutritious foods and not sugary junk. My DS1 is 1st percentile needs to gain weight and still doesn't get a lot of junk food. As far as size 5, don't forget you still have a diaper in her little heinie that takes up some space :-)
I agree with fred that girls sizes are generally meant for a thinner build than a toddler. Generally by 4 or 5 yo, kids start to lose that toddler belly. DD1 has had almost the same size waist since she turned 4. She was in a size 5/5T at 4 years, and in shorts/skirts she still wears a size 4/5. (In jeans she's a 7slim.) 4T or 5T may work better for you.
Or just ditch the jeans and stick to soft pants for a while. Last winter there was no way we were getting jeans to fit right with DD2's toddler belly. She's started to slim down a little, but she still has enough of a belly that it's sometimes hard to find jeans that fit right.
My niece was pretty chubby as a toddler. I think my mom had to hem her pants a couple inches too. She's 5 yo now and perfectly normal. She really just started thinning out a lot when she hit 4 years.
It sounds like you're teaching your DD great eating habits, and she's learning to be active. That's more important than getting sugary snack and juice all the time.

My DD is 2 years old and 36 inches and 36 lbs. I dont think she looks "fat" but her pedi says shes a little overweight... not enough to need a special diet or anything just to not "go overboard" on the sweets and junk food. I buy her 3t clothes because thats what fits her waist. Shes a GD baby so shes always been on the upper end... she was almost 9lbs when she was born at 36 weeks.
Wait for the pedi to be worried... until then keep up with what you are doing. She will lose the "baby fat" in time. Just keep her active. my DD is super active and I see a difference in her budda belly its definitely shrinking.
