2nd Trimester

Those who had a girl frist, and are preg with a boy

For those who had a girl in your first pregnancy and a are now pregnant with a boy this time around, did you notice you got bigger faster? I swear, in the last 2 weeks I have only gained 2 lbs but I look like I went from a little pudgy to 7 months pregnant! Which has me a little worried because boys on both the hubby and my side of the family are HUGE. Not like cut chubby babies, like huge, lengthy babies. Girls have never reached 7 lbs (DD was 6 lbs 11 oz, 19 inches long) but boys... well, my oldest brother was 11 lbs, youngest brother 8.5 lbs, hubby was close to 9 lbs... so you see my fear? lol Just curious about other mom's experiences.

  • Regardless of sex, it's normal to get significantly bigger faster the 2nd time around. Your body knows what to do, and your muscles spread quicker. I'm sure at this point, your baby is measuring perfectly normal despite how big you may be. ;)

ETA: My 1st was a girl. (also my smallest baby, 7lbs 1oz -- 2 weeks early.) And my 2nd was a boy. (8lbs, 2 weeks early, easy peasy delivery w/ literally 3 rounds of pushes before he was out.) Yes, I got bigger quicker... but he was pretty average sized. :)

  • My mom had a girl first and then a boy and he was bigger but not by much. Both boys and second children tend to be bigger than first children and girls. Even my American Academy of Pediatric books lists different normal skull sizes for boys than girls.

  • Nope.  I had DD and she was 8 lbs 11 oz at birth.   I was never that big with her, but this time I'm still barely showing at all.   I actually think my belly is smaller this time with the boy and he's measuring ahead.   I was down 15 lbs from my pre pregnancy weight between the two though, so that could be it.
But three things remain: faith, hope and love; the greatest of these is love. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker
  • DD was 8lbs 14oz, DS was 9lbs 15oz. I definitely got bigger faster with DS, but I think that's more because it was my second pregnancy and that they're so close in age. With DD I carried a lot lower, DS stretched me out more while she stretched me lengthwise. This time we're having another girl... Not sure gender matters but I feel HUGE compared to both past pregnancies and I've only put on about 8lbs total.

This.  Generally with second, third etc. pregnancies you show sooner and can be bigger b/c your body has done it before. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the baby's sex.

  • Nope, I'm still not showing much and about the same size as I was at this point in the pregnancy with DD. I have spine hugging babies.
