Any uncooperative babies at 20wk scan?

I go in for my 20wk scan on Tuesday
Soo excited, ive been waiting 5 long months for my babys gender to be revealed!
Doctors keep saying you can find out the sex......if your baby is cooperative.
Well, way to make me worry that my baby will be in some awkward position. I would be so upset!
Anyone have an uncooperative baby?

  • Yes! The first time my LO kept her legs stretched out and crossed so we couldn't see anything. The next time she moved so much they were able to guess at it but couldn't be sure because she wouldn't stay still long enough to get a good look. The next time she was much more cooporative

  • Mine was kinda cooperative lol. We were told girl at 16 weeks 6 days, then boy at my 19 week fetal anatomy. I'm going in on thursday for another look and hoping baby feels like showing off the goods a bit better this time. lol

  • Yep! The scan is mostly to get measurements.. so don't go drinking caffiene thinking it will help baby move around and be able to see the sex (not thinking, I had a sip of a frappe before.. and she was all over the place. Couldn't get some measurements, couldn't 100% see sex and had to re-do the ultrasound).

Went back in and they say she is a girl! :p Just may take a couple tries!

  • Mine was uncooperative.  She had her feet crossed and pulled in right by her bottom the entire time.  They got every measurement they needed for the a/s and gave us a guess for the sex.  At my next appt they offered to get me in for a quick peak to hopefully get a better look between the legs but not all offices do that.

It was most likely a coincidence that she was active, a sip of frappe is no big deal and people shouldn't necessarily avoid sugar and caffeine before an a/s.  I had a doughnut and OJ before mine (coincidence, I wasn't trying to get her high on sugar) and she still slept through the entire thing.

  • My son was like that.  He moved so much I had to go back 4 weeks.  The Tech couldn't get a few different measurements she needed.    It was kind of fun to wait since the first one we didn't think we wanted to know.  Good luck.

  • Yep. We had to go back three times to complete the anatomy scan. It's possible.

  • Mine was uncooperative at the NT scan in 1st trimester and I had to walk around outside for a while and then start the scan again.

At my 19 week scan, baby was being uncooperative again and the US tech wasn't able to get all the shots of the spine area. The US tech was able to get a mediocre screen shot showing us the sex and let us know she was "pretty sure, but not 100%." I have to go back for a second scan so they can get all the needed measurements and make sure everything is developing properly.

  • Mine were both good but I've heard of it happening and they just have you come back.  Good luck!

  • Got mine at 21 weeks instead of 20 but eh, it worked out. No one believed me how much this little booger moved until they saw it on the ultrasound. He kept shoving his feet in front of the wand and kicking so,the first 10 shots or so were of baby feet. After a while she was able to see it was a boy but it took about half of the ultrasound to get there. She said she was " pretty convinced" it was a boy.... if I hadn't seen his testicles, I'd probably never believe her.

  • Our little guy refused to cooperate. My sister even flew in from out of state to be there and he was just not willing to show us the goods. My doc said I could go back the next Monday (appt was a Friday) just to see if we could find out the gender (and didn't bill my insurance or me). SO glad we did cause we knew right away it was a boy. My advice is make sure you eat before you go and have a soda so baby is active.
  • At my anatomy scan with DD, she would not uncross her legs. The tech was able to get all the other measurements that they needed, so we were not asked to come back.  We found out she was a girl at 32 weeks at a growth ultrasound, but if we weren't high risk (and thus in need of the extra ultrasound) we would have been team green by default.

  • we needed a bunch of ultrasounds with DD for medical reasons. We probably had 5 u/s and they could tell everytime that she was a girl. I wouldn't worry too much1

  • My friend checked the gender for us before my a/s, but baby was sitting butt down on top of my cervix with unbilical cord between legs. We did a vaginal u/s which clearly showed a boy. A week later, at my a/s, baby was clearly a girl. There aren't any guarantees until she's here though.
  • Mine had her legs closed tight, but after all the measurements the tech had me get up, go to the bathroom and move a bit. It worked! We got the clearest genital pic I've ever seen haha. So ask to get up for a minute if your babe's not cooperative

  • My baby was uncooperative, I have to go back for another u/s this week.  Fortunately, we were able to see he is a boy.  But we didn't get the best of views, so hopefully we can get a second look.
  • Yes. My baby A had the umbilical cord between her legs! I was able to find out the following week though.

  • Mine was uncooperative too.  The only decent shot we got the whole time was a spine shot.  We are going back tomorrow to try again.

  • The U/S tech said it may have been the caffeine. She sounded a little irritated when I'd said I had it too! =

  • My little guy hid his unit with the umbilical cord which caused my doctor to say, "Well... it might be a girl." But APPARENTLY our doctor was SUPPOSED to tell us to schedule an appointment with Dr. Super Happy Awesome Ultrasound. So we did that and got in two weeks later and saw how definitely-boy our little one is. :)
  • I had a level 2 sono at 20 weeks, hoping to find out the gender as well. No, the baby was facing face down, so wasn't able to tell. I was a little disappointed that the doctor didn't have me roll over or get up to walk around to move the baby around or something. They want us to come back in 4 weeks ... I sure HOPE we find out then!!!!
