At my last doctors appointment nothing was going on down there. Nada. Zip. Zilch.mmy doctors appointment this Tuesday will be my due date, should Imask to have my membranes stripped? Does this really help? Does it hurt?
Last time around for me, it did nothing except hurt and make me crampy and irritable all day. I think if your body is a little more ready, it'll help push things along, so maybe give it a shot if there's some progress at your next appointment. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
I dont really feel like it helped me. My last pregnancy I had it done at 37, 38, and 39 weeks, and I still did not have DS until 39 weeks 6 days. It was painful the second and third time, but the first time wasn't too bad.
If you're not dilated they can't. I was 2cm at my last appointment and my MW said she could try but wouldn't be able to do it thoroughly. I had it done twice with DD and ended up being induced anyway.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

Oh I didn't realize you had to be dilated to have this done. I had actually never heard of it until my sister in law told me she had it done at 38 weeks and it put her into labor

I had my membranes stripped at my appointment on Thursday morning. I am 5cm and 80% effaced. Doctor said there was a 10-20% chance of it helping labor along and if it works it is usually in someone like me who is already starting the dilation process. Here I am 2 1/2 days later still pregnant so it obviously didn't work. I'm not sorry I had it done, but it was uncomfortable.
