Priority seating on a bus ?is intended for those who may have difficulty standing in a moving vehicle?. This means, the elderly, the disabled, children, strollers and PREGNANT WOMEN. (it says so on the sign!)
If you do not want to have to get up and move, DON?T SIT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!
And, while I am on the topic, 40-50 year old women, this means you too. Don?t look at me and give me a dirty look when I am 7 months pregnant and not getting up for the old gentlemen needing a seat. YOU give up your seat.
(Side note ? I actually have given up MY seat when nobody has budged, I also tend to be dramatic at times, so I try to push out my stomach further and make it look like I have difficulty getting out of the seat to make a point)
Rant Over! Just needed to get that off my chest!
Re: Dear Teenagers (and 20 year olds) on the bus...
Your side note made me smile.
I don't take Public Transportation but I feel you!
I look really really young (some people say as young as 15) and I used to take the city bus to work and school all the time. I have a chronic pain disease and a really bad knee but I still stand when I need to on the bus and I've given up my seat before.
But one day I was in a ton of pain and I took one of the many seats near the front. There were a bunch of open seats in the front still and even a few closer to the front open and I wasn't even the youngest person sitting up there, but when an older woman got on a few stops later and CHOSE to walk to a seat towards the back I (and only I) got chastised by some middle-aged man loudly for the whole bus to hear for sitting up front and not immediately jumping up for the old lady.
I'm saying those teenagers needed those seats I just hate when people leap to conclusions about others on the bus. I guess I'm just venting too. I hate public transportation because of how judgey people get on there. :P
I hope your rides get better
I ride the train or bus every day and I feel your pain. The train gets so crowded sometimes I am literally putting my bump in someone's face and they just stare at it. Some people are so nice about it, I have even had people tap me on the shoulder to offer me a seat that is open behind me, but some people (and i hate to say it's usually males in their 20s and 30s) do nothing.

I find this so funny. When I am at the mall with DD (when she was in a stroller) perfectly capabable people were there waiting for the elevator, when the stairs or even the escalator was right next to it, the elevator takes FOREVER, and I'm thinking to myself, you could have gone up and down 5 times by now, but you are waiting for the elevator.
Your right, I do not know their situations, but when you take the same bus everyday to and from work, you get to see the same people and I am pretty sure they are capable of standing.
I am the 1st stop on the way to work, so I always get a seat, and there are like 50 seats on the bus and a young person, chooses to sit in the priority seating. So it bugs me more when they get grumpy when they are asked to move. Don't sit there, choose a different seat when you first get on the bus.
LOL...Yup, we have some pretty rude people on the bus. (and they say Canadians are friendlier)
Usually, if I don't say anything, a Gentleman will point out to people that I am pregnant and they should move. I have become a little more assertive in asking for seats now though.
LOL...OMG. YES. Or notice you are trying to get through a door with a stroller and instead of helping you by holding the door, they will go through anotther door.
DH still opens doors for me, even the car door. Last night he picked me up and I got in the car. He apologized for not getting out and opening the door for me. He said he had to pee so bad and he was scared if he stood up, he would go. lol.
