FFFC

Since I'm apparantly not going to sleep I might as well start it!!

DH and I have been trying to cut caffeine out of our diet, we're doing it "together". I've had a pumpkin spice latte every day this week and didn't tell him. I'm addicted.

This is something I would do, and in fact kind of do with sweets.   We are "eating better", me less chocolate and him less junk food.  I have a hidden stash of milk duds, Hershey chocolate, and Rolos in the pantry . . Not sure what I will say if he ever finds them

I didnt give Emily a bath for the last 2 nights

    and....

She took the dogs bone from him yesterday and I watched until she stuck it in her mouth...then took it away from her. My dogs are in big trouble once she gets faster, as am I

My FFFC...Abby is in love with my iPhone. I have some Fisher Price apps on there for when she gets fussy while we're out. Since the only time she had any interest in crawling was to get to things she couldn't have, like the newspaper, I figured we would practice crawling after the phone. I turned it on airplane mode, put one of the apps on, and set it a distance from her. She crawled right to it. We did this a few more times and now she can crawl across the floor after anything.

  • I don't like the siggy challenges.

I hate when people use the "old English" spelling of things: favour, colour, behaviour. The "u" makes my eyes burn and I put a heavy "or" on the end of the word when I say it in my head.

Kids these days are too disrespectful and entitled. Over my dead body will I let Aria act like that while I can help it.

  • We let Laura crawl around on the basement floor and play with her toys. I wasn't paying enough attention last night, because when I looked up, she was slobbering all over the dogs kong shell. In case you're not familiar with a king shell, let me explain. It's a rubber dog toy that you fill with peanut butter to keep a dog busy.

The worst part was when I grabbed her, she smelled like peanut butter. I didn't plan on giving her peanut anything for another five months.

Also, we're not TTC again until June. All week I've been really emotional, bloated, and kind of crampy. And exhausted, despite the fact that Laura has slept better this week than she has in the last month. A small part of me hopes I'm KU, even though the larger, more logical part knows that t his is just PMS.

    Pass the sheet cake.

  • I can't stand my DH's family. They are nice people in general but they fart, burp/belch at the dinner table DURING meals (but not only then) which I think is completely GROSS and uncouth and they swear all the time. I don't want K to spend time with them when she grows bigger but I have no idea how to achieve that since my folks live in Europe now (nice retirement) and it's not like I can say well let's go visit them instead.

  • Before I had a baby, I used to judge the crap out of my friends that had babies that didn't sleep well. I couldn't figure out what was so hard about getting a baby to sleep. I just assumed they were crappy parents. I'm pretty sure God is now punishing me for being a judgemental bizzo because my kid never sleeps.

  • Yesterday morning I grabbed a drapey sweater that I had not worn since the spring and gave it a quick iron since it's been in the drawer.  I saw splotches.  I gave it a sniff and it was dried spit up formula (slightly vomit smelling) - had to be 4 or 5 months old.  You bet I scraped it off and wore it anyway.  And I semi-enjoyed the smell on my shoulder all day as it reminded me of Olivia.  Good thing I pretty much work alone now so it did not offend anyone!

Olivia is going to H's parents today for babysitting since we're having more work done in the house and we are going to spend the weekend away from home.  I could sleep over there but the thought of spending a whole overnight with my inlaws makes me queasy so I am packing up and going to my friend's apt instead.

Today is the 5th and I still have not paid the mortgage.

And Olivia's baptism was 3.5 months ago and I still have not sent thank you cards.  Go me.

  • I'm wearing yoga pants at work.  We have a very relaxed office, but still...  But I went to bed at 10:45, Natalia was up screaming from 11-12:30, then up again at 4 to eat, then up at 5 for the day, so they're lucky I'm even here.

A woman that I work with has a 1.5 year old son and yesterday she brought in his brush with hairs on it so that she "could feel like he's with her" (he's alive and healthy, was just at daycare).  I think that is really weird and kind of creepy.  I feel bad thinking that because she tried for years to get pregnant and couldn't and had her son using a surrogate who lived in CA (we live it CT) so her journey to get her son was a long and hard one.  But I still think it's weird.  And while it's obviously important to appreciate your children and realize what a blessing they are, I hope that she gets some perspective and takes him off of the pedestal before he's older and realizes how easy it will be to wrap his parents around his little finger and get whatever he wants.  She told me that her daycare had said a week ago that her son bit another kid and she said that the other kid must have provoked him!  She's definitely one of those "my kid can do no wrong" parents and I hate those.

You didn't know anyone who was spanked growing up?  It seemed to be a pretty common thing when I was a kid.  Not saying that I agree with it (although I don't consider just a quick spanking abuse) - and we won't be doing it - but I'm just really surprised that you've never encountered anyone who was spanked.  I think all of my friends got spanked growing up, and from my experience it just seems to be a fairly recent thing (maybe in the last 5-10 years?) that there seems to be a movement away from it.

Maybe I should do this with my laptop cord...DD always finds a way to get to it and I always have to take it off her. a few days ago - I came out of the kitchen, and she was sucking on it. She was more mad that I took it off her than that I screamed and ran at her.

I used to judge our friends (whose baby is a lil older than DD) because they couldn't get the kid to sleep in his bassinet. They would let him sleep in the bouncer/car seat and (for some odd reason, they kept those things downstairs) they'd take turns sleeping downstairs with him. Now my bed is on the couch with DD as she re-learns to STTN

DD had KFC mashed potatoes and green beans last weekend. And we let her suck on a pretzel last night (loaded with salt).

  • I give William a little taste of what I'm eating All. The. Time.

Is it bad for him? Our pedi said he can have anything we eat. But of course I don't feed him meals or anything like that. Just a little taste. And no peanuts or honey. But DH's family is convinced we are going to make our baby obese. DH and I are of average build and are quite healthy, so I doubt that...but still. Any ideas?

The 'worst' things he's tried are pumpkin pie, soda, and candy corns. He loved them all!

No one at all. I went to a public elementary school and I never heard of anything close to kids being spanked.  Of course it's totally possible I just didn't know about it since it's sort of taboo around here.

It's been banned in 22 countries in Europe already, the American Academy of Pediatrics (which is often cited on this board, so I feel like people trust it) strongly recommends against it, and it's not effective

No, it's not bad for him.  You'd just want to watch his sodium intake...if you salt your food, get his out first, then salt yours.  Also, as for giving him tastes of sweets...I don't think there's anything wrong with that either.  It's all about balance and moderation!

I could see people wanting it banned in the US but IMO it'll never happen.

I agree - I don't think it's effective. It just releases parent's frustrations. I was spanked as a kid - and all I learned is how to run fast and lock a door. Did I still misbehave - yes.

DH was threatened once. His dad snapped his belt. They've never been spanked. He's the most respectful/behaved person I know.

  • I have spanked my kids. I actually gave my older DD a little pop on the rear yesterday at Walmart.  Sometimes the immediate spanking is just better ( for me and my sanity) because it is quicker than the long drawn out lecture / verbal argument ( this child has a sharp tongue) in the car which then get dragged out to home and also my other children suffer listening to it.  A quick spank and then a quick explination on why ( rude attitude) and it is all over before we are done checking out. Followed up with 10 minutes in her room when we got home. All the punishment is on her this way and not painful to everyone in the car.

I did not intend that to be my FFFC but I guess it is... What great timing.

Spanking can be effective with some kids and at certain ages. Just my opinion. My kids are not violent and I have never had to spank because they hit someone ( they don't hit) I usually spank when they have flat out disobeyed me and I gave them fair warning. Example.. If you don't do whatever ( ETA after I have used other methods or if the child is already mad because he/she is in trouble)n the next 5 seconds you will get spanked. Etc. it's usually a last resort.

Zero flaming from me. Basically all of my friends spank their children when necessary. I have heard from all of them though that they have a fear of doing it in public because there's such a terrible stigma about it- that they will be reported to CPS or something. I get the fear, but I think it's terribly sad that a parent would have to be worried about disciplining their child in a more public setting for fear of having their kids taken away when they are doing nothing wrong and NOT abusing their child. Most of my friends save it for at home and talk to/remind the child later when they are home as to why they are about to get the spanking.

You can DEFINITELY spank in a right way and a wrong way. If you are spanking out of anger then that's a problem. I think the parent should take time to calm themselves down BEFORE giving a spanking so they are doing it with an attitude of correction and love and not in a fit of anger.

  • Oh, megahof, I've got you beat by a mile!  I have left washed clothes in the basket for so long that I have had to end up re-washing them because it just bugged me.

My FFFC: We haven't got the gate for the bedroom door yet (cats need to get in and out, Ben doesn't) and since we haven't been using his bouncer, we just put it across the door frame.  The kitties can squeak through, but he can't (at least not fast enough that I can't catch him).  The other day, he pulled up on it, fell on his butt, and pulled the bouncer over on top of him.  He was fussing and trying to figure out how to get out, but he was stuck.  I looked at him trapped underneath like a turtle who can't get out of his own shell and I cracked up laughing!!!  Mom of the year!

My other FFFC: the roofer guy was going to come today.  I told him that Ben might still be contagious with this viral thing so if he wanted to reschedule, that was cool (he has a granddaughter Ben's age).  Chances of him still being contagious are pretty slim.  It was really that I was embarrassed by how messy my house was, so I hoped he'd want to come another day so I would have time to clean up (they are doing some stuff inside the attic and bedroom, too).  Embarrassed
