Naming twins non clicky poll
Hypothetically, if you were having twins, would the fact that they were twins affect you naming them? Or would you just pick two names that you liked? Would if they were identical or fraternal affect this?

I would pick family names (one from each side). That way there's still a theme, but it doesn't come across as matchy.
2 girls would be Ruth Mary and Carol Esther (after DH's and my grandmas)
2 boys would be John Paul and Lloyd William (grandpas)
1 girl and 1 boy would be John Lloyd and Kimberly Anita (our parents, both of our dads were named after their dads)
I would just pick two names that I like. I would prefer they don't rhyme. I don't care if they match in any way. I don't think twins need different names than regular siblings. If I had to name twins right now they'd be out of luck because I have no idea. I'm barely pregnant with one and I have no idea what that one will be names.
I would pick names that I like and that were similar in style. Definitely not matching and if they had the same first letter, initial, it would be a total coincidence and not on purpose.
2 girls = Audrey Claire and Caroline Grace or Carys & Maren (not sure about middle names and these are my GP names...DH would probably not go for them).
2 boys = Owen Miller (Miller is a family name) and Evan Reid
boy/girl = Audrey Claire and Evan Reid
Having twins would probably affect our name choices, but not in the rhyming or same initial way. I would just want them to flow together because they would be said together often.
My choices would be:
Boy/Boy: Bennett Henry and Gabriel Cedric
Boy/Girl: Bennett Henry and Elizabeth Frances
Girl/Girl: Margot Elizabeth and Gwyneth Frances
Like pp, I would have family names in both somewhere.
BB: Linus Brown and Finn Aloyius
GG: Marianne Clover and Thora Elizabeth

I have a set of g/g twins, Claire Suzanna and Charlotte Anne. Each was given a fn that we liked and a mn that has family ties. We did not intentitally pick two C's. If I had to name two more twins, I would do it the same way, to names that sound nice together and a family name for a mn.
G/G - Greta Jane, Ella Marian
B/G - Joseph Perry, Ella Marian
B/B - Joseph Reid, William Perry
I would name them like any other siblings, but I'd also make sure they sounded like with DD's name. My twin sister and I both have names that are 8 letters. That is the only thing that's similar though, and it was a coincidence.
B/B: Miles Richard and Simon Henry
B/G: Miles Henry and Dorothy Faye
G/G: Louise Dorothy and Colette Josephine
I would use inspiration from our other two's names to pick names that kind of "go" with our girls.

We couldn't agree on One Boy/One Girl, so I'll throw out my favorites

The fact that they were twins didn't affect the names we chose. We did pick names we loved, however we did take somethings into consideration. The first name we agree on is associated with cats, so we had to nixed names that had the same perception. A few other names had to go for other ties it had with the name.
I don't mind the same initials if it just happened. We did not go into the naming process looking for specific letters, but if the two names we really liked did then we would have no problem using them. I do have a little bit of OCD when it comes to names. So the length did kind of play a role (most boys names we like are 4-6 letters long so it wasn't a big deal).
Bonus:
Marshall & Calvin, Cecelia & Vivienne, Marshall & Cecelia
We picked the two names that we really liked. They happened to both start with the same letter and flowed well together but weren't too matchy. We did make sure that they had different initials with the middle name though (can you imagine everyone with the same initials when it comes time to label belongings?).
The only thing that did sway our name picking approach was when we found out we were having a boy and a girl. There were some gender neutral type names that I liked (Taylor, Riley) and I opted against them because I wanted it to be clear from the names that we had a boy and a girl. I must have had the premonition that my daughter would not have a full head of hair until she was almost 2 and even when dressed all in pink people though we had two boys.

About me 2007: Started TTC. 2008: OB prescribed clomid, went to RE and was Dx with PCOS. 2009: IUI #1 w/follitsim and trigger = BFP. B/G Twins born at 33 weeks. 2012: TTC #3, Round 2 of Letrozole w/TI = BFP, missed m/c at 8 1/2 wks. Currently on the bench as we make plans for a new home. Anxious to start TTC #3 within the next year!
I'd use two names I like, I wouldn't go out of my way to make them match. Their middle names would be family names.
Girls: Natalie Rose & Sarah Ruth
Boys: Dominick Anthony & Michael Joseph
G/B: Natalie Rose & Michael Joseph
I would just pick two names that go well together, while avoiding rhyming and (probably) alliteration. For example, two biblical names like Adam and Noah, or two old fashioned names like Ivy and Pearl.
If I had twins tomorrow (scary thought!), they would be
girls--Felicity and Camilla
boys--Lucas and Henry
one of each -- Lucas and Felicity
I guess I would pick two names that I like along with two names that seem to go together well.
Boy/Boy- Theodore James(Teddy/TJ) and Bennett Lee(Ben)

I think I would want them to be same style, since the names will be said together a lot. But I don't think I would purposely make them matchy at all.

I would pick two names I liked. I hate the cutesy name trend - I actually almost unintentionally fell into that trap. My name starts with A, my husband is B, my oldest is C, and our youngest was almost David, but when I realized what was happening, I nipped that in the bud!
I have friends who are naming siblings practically the same name (kids who are years apart - things like Evan and Ethan). No rhyming for me, nothing similar - I would even shy away from having them start with the same initial (although that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me).
Boy and girl: Calvin Mark and Lydia Margaret

Boy and boy: Calvin Mark and Reid David
I knew that I was not going to pick themed or rhyming or matchy names, but beyond that, I didn't think about it. We just picked a bunch of names we liked, and when they were born (and we found out their genders) we narrowed it down to the three we liked the best. That's it.
But I have to say, I'm surprised at all of the people who are surprised that we didn't pick matching/rhyming names. At least it's usually a good surprise.

I would pick 2 names that I liked. I would go out of my way actually to make sure they didn't rhyme or have the same initials.
B/B: Hugh Everett and Simon Edward
B/G: Hugh Everett and Clara June
G/G: Clara June and Anna Elizabeth
I would just pick two names I liked- and maybe make sure they didn't sound dumb if said together.
If it were me (and no negotiation with DH were required), I'd go with:
boy/boy: Wesley Patrick and Nolan Arthur
girl/girl: Nora Clare and Bridget Kerry
gir/boy: Nora Clare and Nolan Arthur (first letter agreement just a coincidence- but I think it works).
Arthur = my grandfather
Clare = County in Ireland where my dad grew up
Nora = my grandmother
Kerry = my sister (who passed away when I was young)
Wesley and Patrick are just names DH and I have both said we like.

We have 18 month old b/g twins (frat, obv) and we just wanted names that sounded good together. I wasn't a fan of the rhyming or terribly matchy names, but their middle names do rhyme. I think its cute.
If we had another set of twins:
B/B: Abel/August
B/G: Miriam or Vivienne/August
G/G: Miriam/Vivienne
I agree with the mind set of the names going together, but not rhyme-y. I don't think they need to be matchy-matchy, but some sort of flow would be nice.
I've had these G/G picked out for a while (no reason to...):
Allison & Alexis- as full names, they are similar, but I would nn them Allie & Lexi... which have a good flow but don't look as similar.
Our names are similar in that they are both italian names. Middle names are family names. We have boy/girl gianna and nico.
Twins would not impact my naming decision in that I don't want any of my children's names to rhyme or start/end with the same letter. I want the entire sibset's style to be compatible and I want all of the FNs to be a saint's name, so it is a little theme-y.
I don't mind subtle themes like both names having a twined letter, or both having a nature MN, or something like that.

I embrace pretty freely the "name your kids whatever you love" mantra, but for myself I would want names that flowed nicely together without being too matchy- no all one initial names, or all Old Testament names or anything like that, but not off the wall either.
As for my names:
Boy/Boy: Felix William and Lincoln Avery
Boy/Girl: Felix William and Ramona Scarlett
Girl/Girl: Ramona Scarlett and Matilda Ivy
No, I would pick names I liked. No rhyming, no themes, etc.
B/B: Abram and Davis
G/G: Gemma and Georgia (It would pain me to have the same initials, but I love them both!)

If I were having twins I think I would see if I liked two different names that started with the same letter. Like Evelyn and Eliza for G/G twins. That being said, I don't think it is necessary at all to have a connection between the names.
They won't be babies for long, they will be very individualized, seperate people for most of their lives, so bottom line no matter if there is a "theme" or not, you should pick two names that you love or are meaningful.
I am having boy/girl twins and specifically did NOT want them to match or rhyme. We went with our favorite boy name and favorite girl name and followed our family tradition of each name using the first letter of someone in our families that passed away.
Our girl will be Sienna Eve and our boy with be Max Tyler.

I have 4 names picked out, two set in stone with DH and two more I just like but haven't discussed with DH so this is half hypothetical. They are John David, Laura Kate, William, and Emily. So if we had twins I'd want to use combinations of those.

I actually like KIND of matchy names for sibsets. Like, I wouldn't use rhyming names for twins or do anything different than if I was having a regular sibset, but some people might find my names to be too matchy, anyway.
For girls I like Audrey and Amelia or Magdalena and Elizabeth (maybe nn Lena and Libby). For boys I like Wesley and Wyatt or Ian and Andrew or Andrew and Alistair. Not sure about B/G. I might do a vowel for the first initial of both, and/or the same number of vowels to make them flow better.
I'd also try to keep the same type/style of name. Like I wouldn't name one something super trendy and something completely classic. Not Jaxon and Eleanor. I mean, I wouldn't use Jaxon anyway, but you know what I'm saying.

When we found out we were pregnant we threw around a lot of names. When we found out we were having twins we seemingly forgot all of those names. It seriously was so much harder to decide on two!
We didn't want them to rhyme, we knew ours would be the same gender from the beginning so we knew they wouldn't be boy/girl. We wanted two names that sounded good together but not too 'twiny'. So here is what our list was:
Girl/Girl - Sophia Ruth Rose - Named after my ggma Sophia and DH gma Ruth, and Reese Olivia Rose - Named after my ggma Olive and my mn is Rose
Boy/Boy - Baden Robert - Named after DH gpa Robert, and Nolan Charles - Named after my gpa Charles
Girl/Boy - Sophia Olivia Rose and Baden Robert
