I am 34 weeks, and supposedly when I was 26 weeks I went to a follow u/s and the nurse told me that the baby measured ahead, (1 week ahead)...I am worried because I have contractions all the time, however my dr. has not given me anything because they were not changing my cervix, I have noticed today that my belly is lower that what it was and I feel pain when I walk, maybe it's just the weight of the baby on my cervix, or maybe the cervix is making changes, I have to go back to the dr. next week for my 35 week check up (which based on the u/s I will b 36).
My question is if for any reason (knock on wood), these contractions get real and I have to deliver, are there many complications for a 34/35 week baby? will they stop labor?...I am resting anyways since I am no longer working, but I deliver my 1st son at 36 weeks he was totally fine except for some jaundice, but right now I am only 34 weeks...this baby needs to cook at least 2 more weeks....how stressing.
Re: What happens when you measure ahead?
At one point I was measuring 3 weeks ahead and one of the doctors I saw was completely unconcerned. He said everything looked fine on my u/s and it was possible I might just have a slightly bigger baby. By the next appointment I was measuring right on schedule. I think there is a lot of variablity in any measurement (fundal height, u/s etc).
I have also been having contractions throughout this pregnancy with no cervical changes. I was told that if I'm having more than 6 an hour, do the whole lay on my left side, drink water and time them. So far (knock on wood) they have always slowed down or stopped completely. My OB will try to stop labor up until 37 weeks.
Hopefully none of these things become a big issue for you! FX for you that your baby stays in for a few more weeks!
Measuring ahead by 1 week is no big deal. I have measured 7-9 d ahead all along and now am measuring almost 3 weeks ahead, and that is based on the baby weight calculation using measurements from his head circumferance, abdominal circumferance, Head Diameter (BPD) and femur length. Measuring ahead just means you have a big baby, it does not mean that your baby is maturing faster thena smaller babies. Maturity is determined by gestation, not size.
I have been on hosptial bedrest since 30w1d because my water broke. I am now 31w4d. The doctors are trying to get me to 34-35w as the neonatal risks are greatly reduced at that gestation. If you want specifics ask your doctor. They are wide ranging and can be minor or major in nature. I got the rundown of risk of pre-term birth at 30/31 weeks and I'm not gonna like, it's scarey, but each day baking reduces the risks. Talk to your doc.
