Frostbite from teething ring?

So we gave Joshua a frozen teething ring, and now he has two red marks on either side of his mouth, kind of like the Joker.

It almost looks like frostbite. Has anyone else seen this?

  • Yes!! D got this too and unfortunately it lasted for a long time, like a week or so :[

  • The nurses and doctors in Calgary don't recommend using the frozen teethers.

  • I've always just given teething rings from the fridge because the instructions on the ones I've gotten say "Do Not Freeze". If I needed something frozen, I put a damp washcloth in the freezer for a bit and let DD chew on that.

When DD gets older, I will start giving her frozen peas to eat when she has teething pain. It worked wonderfully for DS, and it was another way to get some veggies into him.

  • A frozen teether is not recommended because it can shock the skin and gums.  It is recommended to put them in the fridge or just stick them in the freezer for a few minutes before giving to baby.
