Jerk with a motorcycle

Just a random vent. My neighbors have a family member who comes to visit occasionally. He drives an incredibly loud motorcycle. And he likes to rev it up as he's pulling into our neighborhood so my neighbors "know he's coming." And then he pulls up in front of their house and honks the horn about nine times while revving the motor again. Wakes my sleeping children up every. single. time. And I hate it. So annoying.

    I'll also add that he always shows up at one of two times: 30 minutes after bedtime, or right in the middle of nap time. So awesome.

    Do you have a good neighbor relationship with them? I'd mention it to them, they might not realize how inconsiderate it is to other neighbors, especially those with little ones.

    Have you mentioned it to them?  Honestly, I probably wouldn't--it's irritating, but it doesn't sound like it's happening at 4 A.M. and I doubt he's trying to wake up your kids.  We live right next to a train track and across from a Yamaha shop, so I can definitely sympathize though!

    We do have a good relationship. They have two kids, too, but they just don't have a schedule that their kids are on. No regular schedule. And it doesn't happen that often, so I'll just deal with it. Was just annoying when it happened today, since DH is out of town and I was ready for a break. And the kids had JUST gone down for a nap. Ugh.

     ::Lurker:: If it happened often I would complain, but if its random then I would ignore it.   In my town the police are very strict about noise violations, they even ticketed the ice cream man for being too loud.

    Hopefully he doesn't come to visit too often! If he did I would mention it to them.

    Depending on your relationship with the neighbors, you might say something. Or if you're a total chickenshiit like me in these instances, say nothing and check into getting a white noise machine for the kids' rooms.
    We have neighbors across the street with collegeaged sons who still live at home and their douchebag friends come over like every other night to "work on cars" in the driveway and along our street...and so engines rev and loud, bassfilled music plays when they come over. I want to shout out the window to STFU but I don't. I just hope they move out of Mommy amp; Daddy's some day soon and annoy someone else in another neighborhood. LOL


    Oh, I would have said something the first time it happened! And if it didn't stop, I'd call the police to report a noise violation. But I'm crotchety like that. Years of apartment living have frayed my nerves but also made me hardass.

    This sounds horrible! I cracked up when I read this, because I couldn't help but think of the Modern Family episode where Clare flips out over people driving fast and puts up the sign that says "SLOW DOWN your neighbors." You should put up a sign that says, "SHUT UP your neighbors."

    My husband rides motorcycles. The purpose of a loud engine and pipe is a safety issue - if the motorcycle is loud, other vehicles will hear it. The purpose is to let you know we're coming before you can see us so we don't get creamed on the road.

    That being said, if it really is a noise disturbance outside of daylight hours, I'd talk to your neighbors.

     

    I hear you, but I'm pretty sure revving the motor up over and over again, and honking the horn nine times, all while sitting in my neighbor's driveway does nothing for safety. Just sayin'...
