bathtub question.....

We just stopped using the baby tub and just fill the big tub for bath time.
My question id how far do you fill it? Last night I filled it to her belly button and she shivered the whole time! She likes warm water so I know that wasn't it......TIA

P.S. only 31 days to DD'S birthday AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! :/

Re: bathtub question.....

  • We are in the same situation I am curious to see what others say

  • Maybe I'm a meanie, I just put about an inch of water in the tub, if that...just enough for her to get her lady parts submerged and then I use a cup for the rest. Our water rates went up and I'm trying to be conservative with our usage. I do warm the bathroom up ahead with the heat lamp thing and she is in and out pretty fast...no shivers unless it has been super cold.

  • We fill it up just to the top of her legs when she's sitting.  so only a couple inches.  She loves to lay on her stomach and kick and blow bubbles and that would be hard if it was too much deeper.  We just use a cup to pour water over her, and she's so active in the tub, I think she keeps herself warm by moving!

Plus, our bath takes half a century to fill up.  So filling it more than a few inches just takes too long and she could be done with her bath by the time it fills.

  • Thanks so much for all the input! Guess well go get a heater for the bathroom :
  • We only fill the bathtub up for LO to be sitting in about 2" of water. I leave enough room to see if LO pees in the tub. If he does, I drain it and put new water in. I can't wash him in that (creeps me out)!

OP, with your LO shivering, maybe she's getting cold as the temperature of the water gets cooler.

  • I fill the tub up to about DS's belly. I don't like to have too much water in there, because he likes to try to stand up in the tub and it freaks me out.

  • Just a couple of inches. I lay her down to wash her hair because otherwise she gets mad. I try not to let too much get in her ears and I don't want her nose and mouth in the water if she turns her head.

  • DS and DD bathe at the same time so we fill it up to somewhere between belly and chest on DD (about belly button on DS).

  • Just a few inches here too.  DS is very active in the tub so I like to keep less water in it.  Plus even with a bath mat  out tub is slick so i'm nervous to fill the tub up too much.

  • I can't give too much input, since I bathe LO in his inflatable ducky bathtub and the water is usually all the way up towards his chest. I will agree with PPs and say that it may be that the water is getting cold more quickly because it's so shallow and you may want to try a heater in the bathroom while you're in there (and the perk is you can have a warm bathroom when you get out of the shower)
  • We ditched the baby bath tub back in May when we moved into our new apartment, we only had a standup shower before. I started with it just under her belly button because I was so nervous at first, then about a month ago we got a no-slip bath mat. (god Ik it took forever for us to get one, I kept forgetting until I was actually giving her a bath and her butt was sliding around lol) Since we've had that I fill it up to almost her armpits, she loves the water so much!

  • We fill it an inch or so past his belly button-- he's in the big tub, but he's in this bath ring. DS1 is in the tub at the same time.

  • We've been doing big bath tub baths since he could sit up unassisted. (5 months or so) I fill it up to about an inch or two above his belly button. I try and make sure to warm up the bathroom and keep the door closed to maintain the heat if it seems to bug him.

DS really likes the water high as I will let it get and full of bubbles. He likes laying on his belly and blowing bubbles in the water. We do swim lessons and he likes floating back and forth.
