Ok ladies, now that I have a minute, Raylan's Birth story. Short version: We got to the hospital at 7am for our induction. They started pitocin around 9am, I made it through med free and Raylan was born at 7:20 weighing 6lbs 15oz.
Long version:
We got to the hospital at 7 and were happy that we got our room right away. It took a while of just paperwork, getting checked out and everything and we didn't actually get the pitocin started until 9am. At this point I was about a 4. They gradually increased the pitocin until my contractions became regular and it was clear I was dilating. The labor went really well at this point, I was rocking on the ball and just really focusing and breathing through the contractions. I was very pleasantly surprised when the next time I was checked just before 5pm I was at an 8, I felt like I could confidently get through it. Very shortly after that my water broke on it's own and then things got a lot more intense. I was in transition and it was MUCH harder to breath through the contractions. I was making more noise, not able to sit so still or just rock through them. Transition didn't last too terribly long and I was relieved when I had reached a 10 and was able to push.
The contractions at this point were completely unbearable unless I was pushing through them. First I was on my back, in the "standard" position, but after 30-45 min baby wasn't coming down. My OB said he was slightly diagonal and needed to turn to come down. I was getting really tired, so pushing through them all got harder, but when I didn't the pain was intense. I had to go through several positions: back, squatting, on my knees, I tried my side but that was too painful. The last one that ended up being my delivery position was on my back with my feet up on the bar pulling on a sheet with my arms. After 2 1/2 hours of pushing and lots of horrific noises from me Raylan was born!! My OB said later had I had an epidural I probably wouldn't have been able to birth him vaginally because we needed to switch positions and push harder than I would have been able to.
There are no words, he's absolute perfection. I won't lie to you though, that perfection is terrifying to me. I worry all the time, that I'm not doing the right thing... I don't say this to scare FTMs, just to prepare you. Bringing them home is super scary, it's completely overwhelming. I'm so in love and yet feel like it all should come so naturally to me, but don't worry if it doesn't. He took right to breastfeeding, but my supply hasn't come in and he's losing weight too rapidly, so I have to supplement. Things probably won't go perfectly, I hope in about a week I can come tell you that you will settle in. No matter what though, the love is indescribable.
And now, what you've all been waiting for, Mr. Raylan:

Gorgeous baby and story, and so well said! I'm so glad it all worked out for you! Personally, I had lots of the same worries/feelings with DS, but it worked itself out; I don't remember when. One day, caring for him was just second nature.
Congratulations on a wonderful little rainbow!
