size of L&D bag...

I'm sure this was discussed before. But between my stuff and baby's stuff (keeping in mind I don't know the weather or the baby's size - so I'm bringing two sizes for both warm weather and two sizes for cold weather) I have a ton of stuff! The robe alone takes up a gang load of space in my weekend bag.

DH says upgrade to the small suitcase. Doula says, if a c-section, I'd want to have more than one change of clothes. Sounds like I'm packing for a week!

What size bag did you all bring?

Re: size of L&D bag...

  • One duffel for my stuff, DH and baby stuff.
  • Loading the player...
  • Duffel bag/weekend bag, no diaper bag.

  • I brought a large tote bag with my stuff and the diaper bag for LO. DH brought a separate tote bag for himself. I really hate overpacking though, so I probably brought a lot less of the "just in case" stuff than most people.

  • I'm bringing one small roller suitcase and a small carry on type bag.

The suitcase has my, DH and new baby's things. You are right the robe takes up a lot of space!

The smaller bag has snacks/drinks for DH, toiletries, DS's new big brother gift, the baby book for footprints, my kindle, book for DH, change, paperwork, camera and chargers.

  • I packed a duffel bag for me. DH will pack a backpack for him. I have a separate baby bag with LO's things but I'll leave that in the car until we get moved to our normal room.

This! Only minus the big brother gift, kindle (although I'd have it if I owned one!), and the book for DH.

My Robe is HUGE too...but it's so freaking comfy!!!

  • My bag is like a carry-on bag and the babys bag is just a small one..this is my 4th baby so I know just what I need. Not bothering with all the extras or 'maybe' items, just the basics :)

  • A back pack. I think a duffle is plenty big. I saw a lady on a baby story with a full size rolling suitcase I thought that was ridiculous.

  • I have a carry on satchel for me, diaper bag with BF stuff and LO outfits, and one bag for DH/DD and snacks. I also am bringing two scrapbook pages I had DDs footprints put on when she was born. I'm going to have DD2s footprints put on as well as a keepsake for each sister.

  • All of baby's stuff is in the diaper bag (2 sleepers - one NB, one 0-3, a couple of swaddle blankets, coming home outfit & matching blanket, two types of paci) and I'll pack my stuff in a gym bag.  When DS was born, I never changed out of the hospital gown until the day to go home, so I all used out of my bag was toiletries & socks (my feet are ALWAYS cold).  This time, I know I'll change, b/c I want DS to see me looking somewhat normal when he comes to visit, but all I'm taking is 2 pairs of yoga/pj pants, a nursing tank, a nursing bra, and a maternity t-shirt that will be comfy for lounging in the bed & still relatively easy to nurse in... oh, and cell phone/camera/laptop + chargers.  We live 15 minutes from the hospital, and DH will be back & forth b/c of DS, so if I need anything else, I'll have him pick it up.

  • I'm taking a small carry on bag for me and LO. They don't let us have anything at all while we're laboring, so I won't need anything until after LO is born. I didn't change out of the hospital gown, nor dress DS is anything of his when he was born, but maybe I'll wear something normal-ish for when DS visits. I thought I had the minimum last time, but I never used half the stuff. We'll see this time around.

  • My carry-on suitcase. It's small but it fits a lot. DH is bringing a small backpack for his stuff and any last minute items we need to throw in there.

  • I have my stuff, DH's stuff and LO's stuff in a small carry on suitcase. We're going to leave it in the car until after the csection, since I won't need anything for awhile.

  • We have a duffel/gym sized bag for my stuff, DH's stuff and baby's.  We over packed the first time around so this time we're keeping it to basics.  I may have a tote with stuff just for laboring, but otherwise, we're sticking with one bag.

  • This! I have a carryon and then all of baby's stuff is in her car seat carrier so DH can just bring it up when I'm ready to change her.

  • Traditional duffel bag for me and DH and I have LO's diaper bag packed for his coming home outfits etc.

  • A carry on suitcase for myself, DH and baby. I did the same with DD and had more than I needed.
  • Just a regular carry-on bag.  All we need is clothes for me and DH and the coming home outfits for the baby.  DH will probably bring his backpack with my netbook and Kindle and anything he wants to work on while we're hanging out in the hospital.

  • I have a duffel bag packed which doesn't include my husbands change of clothes and the nursing pillow.

The stuff for me and my husband fits in a small-to-medium duffel; I don't have a robe in there, but I would bring a short robe and there's still plenty of room for one.  The baby's stuff, including the boppy, fits in a small carry-on bag.  If it weren't for the boppy I would throw all of the baby stuff into our bag.

That bobby is ENORMOUS. i just got mine yesterday. i think i'll leave it at home. to bring it would be like bringing two robes, methinks. I do have a short, silk robe... but i'm told to bring one that I don't mind bleeding on. so the cotton one is easier to throw away. I'm bringing a slightly larger than carry on rolling suitcase that I usually use for 3-day business trips. it'll hold baby's clothes, my clothes, toiletries, baby book, the RObE!, DH's one change plus his toiletries, labor stuff and laptop. I hope I don't look ridiculous! But it rolls, so several people said to bring a rolling case instead of a gym bag, etc. I'll stuff a tote bag into it in case I just want to have my computer and some mags during labor and delivery - though I'm told that   I need to sleep during labor as much as possible.as far as snacks, im bringin a box of luna bars. anything else and someone needs to go to walgreens!

  • We are not bringing much.  An outfit for me to wear home, one for baby, a nightgown and a "cardigan" type cover-up since the straps are so thin on the night gown and my bathroom bag (lotions, shampoo etc).  The camera, both our Nooks and a little bag of snacks for DH.

DH is bringing his own bag with a couple of changes of clothing but depending on the comfort of the chair-bed in the room, he might just stay with his mom since she lives 5 minutes from the hospital.

Do we really need to bring a diaper bag?

  • I'd recommend multiple bags.  With DD1 - I had one bag for L&D, and one for the postpartem room afterwards. Both were more carry on bags. Lots of stuff you'll want after you give birth isn't needed till you're admitted to your pospartem room.  Why lug it in with you?  I'd also recommend a little bag for your baby's stuff, with blankets and all the outfits.  That you can probably leave in the car till you're in your room too, or possibly till even later.

Make sure to bring an empty bag too, to bring back all the samples, and presents and stuff.
