Flashback...How did you find out you were pregnant?

With things quieting down around here, and all of us being pretty miserable, let's bring back some good times! How did you find out you were pregnant?

I was having horrible out of the blue anxiety attacks and made an appointment with a psychologist. She suggested I ask my primary doctor for some meds to calm me down until I could get an appt with a psychiatrist to figure out what was going on. While I was waiting for my doctor to call me back, I figured I might as well take a pregnancy test if I was going to take medication (we had been trying but my ob thought I wasn't ovulating. I was actually waiting for AF to come so I could start Clomid, so it really didn't cross my mind that I could be pregnant). Both DH and I were very surprised when it came back positive!!

Re: Flashback...How did you find out you were pregnant?

  • No surprises here, we were trying, and trying hard. I tested kind of early (10 DPO) and got a faint positive! I didn't quite believe it so I tested again in the morning and there was no doubt it was positive. We were overjoyed to say the least.

  • I was a testing maniac. It took us a loss, a year and two rounds of clomid to get this little girl.

I had some wondfo testing strips. It was early to test but I did anyway as usual. I thought there was a faint line but I also knew I could convince myself there was a line b/c I wanted a line so badly to be there. DH looked at it and said I was nuts. GRRR

So during lunch I researched what was considered the best early test. I went out and bought it and tested in the bathroom at Walgreens. It was very obviously positive. I was actually really shocked when I saw that second line. After a year of negatives when you see a postitive it almost isn't real. I was able to get a picture on my phone and send to DH and the message said who is nuts now. He texted back well since you just tested in a Walgreens bathroom I still think you are nuts LOL!

I called OB and asked to start blood tests to make sure my numbers would rise and were good. I was so excited but also very very cautious. I can't believe that feels like it was yesterday and I am almost done with this pregnancy.

  • My nipples were KILLING me... so I took a test and got a positive!

  • We were really really trying for about 3 months. Each time I would take the first response the one you can take like 5 days before your period. Well I guess 3rd time was a charm because I had that faint second line that got darker with each test we took.

  • My boobs basically went from a A/B to a D cup in like a week.

Finally caved and took a pregnancy test at (what I now know was 6 weeks).

  • We decided in January to stop any type of birth control and when February came around I was late. I didn't show a positive until almost March, so many doctor appointments and pregnancy tests later. The first thing we did was high five. I'll never forget it!

  • I had gotten my first period about 6 months after having DD1 and thought I could use the rhythm method because of that.  I was wrong.  Apparently I ovulated late (which had never happened before) so when I did not get a period the next month I tested and sure enough it was positive!  While I can't say I was entirely shocked, since we did sort of take a chance, I was also not really prepared to be pregnant again.  But I am super excited now!

  • I was BFing DS, and I hadn't gotten my period back, which I know can be normal, but I was paranoid about it because my mom got pregnant with me while EBFing my brother. I was constantly testing, and when DS was 8 months old, I got a BFP, even though I still hadn't gotten my period. I was surprised but very happy.

  • Well, we had been trying for a year and a half and just underwent my first cycle of IVF.  DH really wanted me to wait until the blood test at the doctor?s office so that we wouldn?t have to go through any up?s or down?s of possibly getting a false positive or negative.  I told him that if we were pregnant, I wanted to find out the old fashion way (peeing on a stick) with him there to see the results rather than some nurse telling me the news over the phone.  He agreed and I tested about 1 week before my blood draw and every day until then.  We were so excited and I LOVED seeing that plus sign get darker and darker each day!  January seems so long ago and here we are waiting to meet our little man next Friday!  We can?t wait!!!

  • We had just undergone our fourth IUI - it was supposed to be an IVF cycle but was cancelled mid-cycle because I hadn't produced enough eggs. I was SO disappointed - I told my DH I was going to do a pee test the night before my dr. appt, because I wanted to know at home and not cry at work when they called me (I simply assumed it wouldn't work, I mean it was the FOURTH one!) I almost passed out when I read positive! I took two more pee tests that night to make sure, ha!

  • I had been testing for several days because I was experiencing symptoms I thought. Had a few BFNs so I waited to what I thought was 1-2 days after missed period. Turns out I ovulated a week later than usual and got a BFP at 3w3d.

I immediately just knew it was twins and told DH,and my BFF before my first appointment.

  • We were in the trying and trying hard camp. As usual, I started testing early and I saw a faint line on a Wondfo. I tested the next morning with FRER and it was kind of anticlimactic. I just said, "Oh husband, look at this."

I really could not believe it though.

  • DH and I decided Jan 31st that we were going to try for a baby. I immediately went on Amazon that night to order pregnancy tests, ovulation tests, and a basal thermometer. I was ready to chart and the full 9!

I was using Weight Watchers (online) at the time and was considering using a dietary supplement to aid with my workout routine (even though I'm SO against them). I decided to take a PG test before I finalized my decision, not because I had any symptoms whatsoever, but just for the all clear because we had not been preventing pregnancy.

Tested that Thursday morning, Feb 2nd, before work. Forgot about the PG test, remembered right before I walked out the door...came back...and freaked the HELL.OUT because it was positive!!! DH was home and confirmed the + results because I swore my eyes were playing tricks on me. Just glad we had the "baby discussion" beforehand, but I don't think it mattered either way, we were elated!

  • period was late. Couldn't figure out why. Took a test on Wednesday. Negative. Still no period, but feeling a little off.. waited until the day after Super Bowl and tested again. Positive right away.

Freaked out a little because it was about 4 months earlier than we planned. Told dh, he cried and was estatic. Realized how lucky we were and that was that.

  • We were totally shocked.  We weren't "trying", but were just pulling out as our BC, because we knew that if it happened then we'd be excited.

DH had gotten sick, and thought for sure he had strep throat or mono.  He couldn't even eat because his throat was so sore.  This was just after Valentine's day, so I was thinking there was no way I didn't catch what he had, and I had been experiencing some serious fatigue.  I was convinced we must have had mono, so off to the doctor we went.  We were seen together in the office (we go to the same office, different doctors normally, but it was a weekend), and DH ended up with a double ear infection.  They said my throat was red, but nothing looked wrong, and my throat wasn't even sore haha.  They wanted to do a pregnancy test "just in case", and as DH and I sat there waiting to hear back, DH tells me "there is no way!", to which I reply, "umm.... yeah... there is".  Sure enough!  They came back and told us, and gosh it felt silly.  But it was so cool to find out together!  We went out to eat afterward and were just in total shock!

  • I started having some weird symptoms that I'd only had before when I was pg with DS, and then saw my profile in a reflection and just *knew* I was pg again - we weren't trying, though, just had been lazy about preventing.  I waited about a week, and when AF hadn't shown up yet, I told DH I thought I should buy a pg test.  He thought I was crazy.  I bought a test that day or the next, and it was a strong, dark positive

  • It was our first month trying - we tried Shettles to get a girl so I didn't think we would get KU on the first try since we DTD 3-4 days before ovulation.  After being a day late, I tested and it came out negative.  I happened to look at the test again like an hour later and there was a definite line there.  So we went and got a digital test later that day and sure enough, I was KU!  That was kind of a roller coaster of a day!

  • Our daughter had just turned 6 months old, I was still exclusively BFing and we were using NFP. I just had a feeling I was pregnant. I took a test late at night and walked into our bedroom with what must have been a crazy wildeyed look on my face, woke up my husband, told him that we were pregnant again to which he replied, "you've got to be kidding!?!?!" and we both were excited but very very nervous. It didnt sink in for a month or so. 2 under 2, yikes but it's just how it goes!

  • We were at the hospital; I was getting prepped to have a heart monitor implanted, and as standard procedure, did a pregnancy test. Needless to say, I was a bit shocked! I'd just gone off the pill a month before...
  • We weren't really trying but not really preventing either. February came and I had realized I was a few days late. I had a test but it came up negative.
So, I was grocery shopping with DD and we stopped at Big Lots. Well, they had clearanced pg tests for like 75 cents! So I bought 2 packs.
Drove home, put DD down for a nap, and took the test. It came up positive! I was shocked! It's a cup kind so I used the second test with the same pee to make sure and it was positive too!
I was so excited I was jumping up and down but trying to be quiet too because DD was sleeping.
I went out that day when she woke up and got a Big Sister shirt and had her wear it. MH didn't even realize. I had to point it out "daddy look at my shirt isn't it cool!?"
His reaction... "Big sister?! Wait are you pregnant?! Woohoo!!!"

  • We had also been trying for a long time, closing in on 2 years.  I had my HSG and an operative hysteroscopy in late December and started 50mg of Clomid with a trigger shot in January.  My birthday was on Superbowl Sunday (which was about 8 or 9 dpo).  I took an IC test that morning and it was negative, so I got to enjoy beer with my football and commercials.  AF still hadn't arrived 2 days later, so I took a FRER test first thing in the morning and after about 3 minutes saw a faint second line.

I very literally could not wait to tell DH, who was in our downstairs bathroom taking a shower.  I barged into the bathroom, abruptly pulled back the shower curtain, and shoved my pee stick in his face.  He was still just waking up so it took him a minute to realize what was happening, but he said, "A line is a line!"

I should have thought it through a little better, though, because he was covered in soap and water and couldn't easily hug me... I had to wait for him to get out!

  • It was Superbowl Sunday and I hadn't gotten my period yet. DH and I didn't think I was pregnant as I had gotten Adrianna for permanent BC a year before. We picked up at HPT just for giggles and SURPRISE! We freaked! I was a SHAM at the time and we were really one and done and of course worried about space and finances. It took quite a while for DH to get on board, but I always felt like this LO really wanted to be here. We are both excited now but are absolutely done Lol. He gets to get snipped soon.

  • I had my beta drawn in the AM and left my phone at home b/c I was sure it was negative. My H called me to say he listened to the nurse's VM and said, "You need to call the clinic, she said your # was 402. What's that mean?" (bless his heart). I started crying at work and said, "It means I'm PG!"

I left work immediately and drove home to listen for myself and to call my nurse back for instructions, stopping at Rite Aid on the way to pick up a few HPTs so I could finally see what 2 lines looked like Smile

  • We'd been trying so I was hyper alert to when I should be expecting AF. I was training for this tutoring position at the time and it was a Saturday morning. I wanted to grab a coffee before training like usual, but I thought, "what if I'm pregnant?" AF was due that day so I figured I may as well POAS. And it came back positive! I was so overwhelmed I cried when the second line popped up. Of course I tested many times that day (and other days) with different tests to be sure, but they kept being positive! I didn't wake DH and didn't tell anyone until after my training. It was so hard to keep it in! I was very happy to have found out at 4 weeks rather than 8 or 10 like I did with the twins.

  • I had a period tracker on my phone that I had started a few months before so Id know when I was ovulating or when we were going to start trying. It said I was 5 days late, which wasn't that uncommon for me. I had a test leftover from a few month before and decided to take it as we were leaving to go on a ski trip that weekend, better safe than sorry. I honestly expected it to come up negative, I just wanted to see it was negative before we went. I was shocked to immediately see a bright blue line.

  • I got off the BCP in November and we were just going to let nature take it's course.  I expected AF on the 8th of Feb, but it didn't come...I had, what felt like, menstrual cramps and general yuckiness feeling that day and for a few days after that.  I figured my period hadn't regulared yet bc i was off the pill for such a short period of time,  Told DH, if I didn't get AF, we would test on Valentine's Day.  Of course, the anticipation was too much to handle so at about 4am on V-day, I tested and it was positive! Best V-day ever! <3

  • We had just started officially trying in January... I had been on BCP for about 9 years, so January I kept an eye on my period to make sure everything was coming on time (EWCM, etc). I had taken a few ovulation tests but they all seemed to come back negative, except for one really faint one. The night before my period was due, I realized my boobs were sore, even though that was common for me, but I had this sudden urge to test. I didn't tell DH, went to the bathroom, and when I saw the "Pregnant" on the digi I started screaming "go to cvs and get more tests!" and he kept asking why, and when he came upstairs, I was standing there with a positive pregnancy test in my hand, and all I could say was to repeat "go to cvs".

  • We had left a late movie in our neighborhood, and were walking home when it hit me, I'm 3 days late. I'm like clockwork, very on time. I looked at SO and said, we have to go to CVS.... NOW. He understood. We about faced and walked to he 24 hour one and went home. Took 2 tests, both positive. Hen totally freaked out. Wasn't planned at all.

We are now absolutely thrilled with our little surprise.

It took a good month or two to get used to the idea! I was worried about finances and insurance too though and DH doesn't really let that kind of stuff get him down.

  • We were in our second month of trying. I was sitting at my desk and felt cold like symptoms but never came down with a sickness. The next day I went to lunch with some friends and for some reason refused to take my lactaid pills even though I had Alfredo and ice cream. I didn't get sick at all from the dairy. I had read in passing somewhere that some lactose intolerant women can tolerate lactose when pregnant and I knew right away even though it was so early it was nearly impossibly related. Took a test on 10dpo at 10pm and saw a faint line. Hubby didn't belive it because he said the tests only work with first morning urine. he just didn't want to get his hopes up. Next morning I took another and another that night to make sure. Then I flew out to Cleveland for 2 weeks for work! So basically, I'm pregnant...adios daddy!

And for what it's worth...I can still tolerate lactose! I'm dreading post delivery when I go back to bein lactose intolerant. :

  • DH and I tried for 6 months, got preg, and then had a late MC (12 weeks).  Super sad, we used the money we had saved to book a vacation to Europe for April and DH applied to law school.

The first week of March we learned that DH received an early acceptance to Law School, and I made an apt with my Doc because my period hadn't returned after MC.  I felt a little weird about a week before my apt, so I took one of the left over pregnancy tests from the previous round and it was positive.   I was sooo freaked out.  I wasn't sure if it was hormones from before or new.  DH came in the room and I was just sitting there crying, (which was super freaky for him because I am one of those crazy in control all the time people).  I emailed my Doc, who moved up my apt, and confirmed, new healthy BABY!  DH and I must have hugged and cried for 15 minutes after that appointment, it was very hollywood-ish.

**The MC changed EVERYTHING about my feelings/thoughts on pregnancy.  I just didn't care about the sex of the baby anymore (we're team green now, much to DH's happiness).  I didn't care that we were spending "baby savings" on a trip to Europe, babies don't care about money or need fancy things!  And I kept the pregnancy very very private until I was almost 6 months along, it just felt so personal this time!**

  • I'm Type A lol and we were charting, temping and using ovulation sticks. I tested at 11 DPO and got a faint positive. I was on my way to Toronto (4 hour plane ride) for a business trip and ran into Walmart on the way to the airport to get a digital. I couldn't wait until we landed, so I took the test in the bathroom on the airplane!!! (I'm sure the other passengers were wondering why I was taking so long b/c the 3 minute wait seemed like FOREVER to me!)

As soon as I saw the word "YES" pop up I let out a little happy squeal and headed back to my seat! I sent a photo of the test to my DH as soon as we landed!!

  • I'd had a yeast infection that month during my window so we'd only had sex once so I wasn't hopeful. It was a friday and I was about to open a bottle of wine so I thought I'd better test first just in case and I got a positive. Over the previous year and a half we'd gone through three back-to-back miscarriages so I wasn't that thrilled. I remember calling my husband and saying, "well I'm pregnant again." It was some serious mixed emotions for both of us - sort of happy but mostly just gearing ourselves for another loss. I don't think it was until the 12w u/s that we allowed ourselves to be happy about it for the first time.

  • We had been trying five months. I had wondfos from Amazon. When I saw the faint line at 14 dpo I knew from the nest that I was pregnant, but DH didn't believe it until he saw a digital a day or two later. I confess to sending a picture of the digital to my sister in Japan, but no pee stick pictures :)

We were very much like WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN. Then I was one of those people who had no symptoms until 7 weeks and was a bit freaked, and then I had EVERY SINGLE BAD SYMPTOM EVER for the remainder of my pregnancy, followed by a horrific delivery. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but good God I am glad she is here and I'm not pregnant anymore :)
