I know that this is not an AP question, but I lurk here a lot, and you ladies are may favorite... so hopefully someone can answer my question!
I just had an IUD (Paraguard) placed on Monday, and I am still bleeding. I am wondering how long this may last...I've looked online, and I only get information about abnormal bleeding resulting in IUD removal. I am not sure if it matters, but I am about 12 weeks post-partum, and I am exclusively breastfeeding.
Re: IUD?
I have a Mirena, so it's a little different.
Insertion at 12 weeks PP. I was still bleeding from birth, not heavily, but I wasn't in dainty little pantyliners by then.
Bled until about 15 months PP.
DS self weaned at 17 months. Periods resumed as normal.
So it's up in the air whether it was BF or IUD related that caused me to bleed nonstop for a year.
I did get a nasty case of cervicitis, which put me in bed for a good 2 days, but no problems other than that.
I also have mirena. I had it put in about 10 or 11 weeks pp and bled fro almost 2 full months. But have not had any bleeding, not even spotting since and my dd will be 10months in 2 weeks. I am still BF so we will see how long this lasts. The 2 months was really annoying, but I am loving the lack of AF now
Also Mirena- I was told expect ALOT of spotting until 6 months post-insertion
My bleeding was delayed, but it still comes and goes, sometimes heavy, sometimes not
This.
I had one put in pre-baby days and the bleeding on and off was a pain but the no periods after? AWESOME.
I will totally get the Mirena again.
This was not a request for opinions on if using an IUD or hormonal birth control is safe/right/whatever.
It was a request for information and anecdotal experience with IUDs.
Get off your high horse. Taking a birth control pill or getting an IUD inserted is not the same moral question as someone taking performance enhancing steroids. It's flipp'in birth control.
Take your rant elsewhere.
Yes, NFP is great and I used it myself until wanting to get pregnant with my second. But I wouldn't dare of or dream of or care to condemn a woman for choosing another form of birth control. Thank God we have these choices available to us unlike so many woman now, and woman before us, that never had reproductive rights. SHAME ON YOU.
I have the Mirena but this is me. Bled for a week after insertion in June and I am still spotting on and off.
