The back of my baby's head is flat. I knew this before his appt yesterday but I guess I thought it was normal and he would grow out of it. Well, hopefully he will if I do some things to correct it. I'm terrified of him needing a helmet. Here is my plan. Any other ideas or things you are doing?
Way more tummy time, at least an hour a day.
Sleeping on his stomach during the day as much as possible. He will sleep on my chest or across my legs. I was just leaving him in the car seat or swing when he fell asleep (which the doctor said I could do) , but no more unless he is actually in the car.
More time sitting up.
Alternating everything (the direction we lay him down in the crib, changing table, the way we carry him).
Edit: Also thought of wearing him around the house more.
Re: Flat headed babies come in
This exactly! I worry everyday about it as well. Doctor said not to worry because his head is still soft and everything will even out. But still I increased tummy time. If he's in the rock n play or swing I put a little toy behind his head to lean it to the other side. We will continue to monitor it at the next appt at 4 months.
He favors looking left when he is up on his elbows, but when I carry him upright it's over my left shoulder so he looks to his right, so I know he can do it. His head sometimes tilts to his left in the car seat but is more in the middle than it used to be. He sleeps pretty much directly on the middle of his head. The doctor noticed the looking left and showed us how to turn and hold it for a few seconds. I really hope he learns to like tummy time more. I'm trying every tip I can find.

DS always goes towards his left. I'll lay him down on his right side and he's a spring and goes back to his left. His DR said when laying him in the crib, have the wall be on his left. Most of the time they like to look away from the wall I guess. I'll sit him in the boppy in between DH and I and we'll position his head to his right. If it's just one of us, we'll sit on his right side to try to get him to look at us.

DS has a flat spot at the back of his head, a bit to the left. I used to swaddle him for every nap, but now we leave him unswaddled during naps so that he can turn his head more easily (which he does). When he doesn't turn his head by himself, I turn it for him and put a small blanket under his head to keep his head turned. LO naps a lot, and I now hold him for some of the naps. I also bought a carrier so that I can carry him more instead of putting him in the stroller when we go out. I've tried increasing tummy time but he HATES tummy time so we are only doing about 15 minutes a day.
Our doctor recommended a special class at the hospital that I'm taking DS to next week - it's suppose to teach you what to do about flat-heads. I'll post an update on here next week if I learn anything new.
