NBR -- but I feel like I witnessed a miracle today...

Hey, Ladies,

I'm all "Eeee!" over this, so I thought I'd share it with you.

There's a recent graduate of the college where I teach who needs a heart transplant, and I've been working on all kinds of fundraisers for her. She needs to raise $150,000 to show she can afford medications, etc., to even be put on a heart transplant list.

So, today before our union meeting, I just said to some faculty in the office suite, "I put info online about fundraising events if you want to check it out," and they asked if I wanted to present it at our meeting. (I hadn't even thought of that!)

I showed the video a friend produced of her telling her story and why she needs the donations, and a faculty member said, "I vote we donate $500 of union dues." Then, someone else said, "No, $1,000. This is one of our students." And then, it made it up to $5,000, and people voted for it, and it passed!!!

Then, one of the union officers said we need to talk to our lawyer first and see if it's even legal to do that, so maybe $5,000 is out of the question, but our union will definitely donate something toward this student's heart transplant fund.

I was so moved. It was amazing. I truly felt honored to be in a room with such caring people today. I hope, hope, hope that we are allowed to make this donation as a faculty union. *Fingers crossed*!
