Pregnant after a Loss

Progesterone dropping. RE won't do anything.

I am beyond pissed. So my progesterone is consistantly falling. It has gone from 30 to 29 to 26 to today's level of 20. My HCG is progressing perfectly and actually tripling.

Anyways, the RE doesn't want to do anything about it dropping. I am already on 200mg of Prometrium 1x a day vaginally. I am the type of person that would rather be safe than sorry so I want to do something about it and supplement more. I am so afraid that it is going to just keep dropping and I going to miscarry this baby as well. At what point does my RE actually get concerned when I am bleeding!!! I am so pissed. I don't know what to do.

The nurse is going to talk to her and tell her my concerns and call me back. I highly doubt she'll do anything though as she has already looked at my levels and decided everything was fine.

I want to cry. I am stressed out and not happy about this. I feel like she is not being proactive at all.

  • I'm sorry. Did she give you an explanation as to why? And could you seek out a second opinion? I'm a firm believer in being your own health advocate, but at the end of the day, you have to trust your doctor's expertise. If you can't, then maybe it's time to find a new doctor.

((hugs)). I'm so sorry you're dealing with this - it sounds incredibly stressful.

  • I am so sorry you are frustrated. Your dr may just not be communicating well with you. My P4 was all over the board - from 16 to 50 depending on the day I tested(was also on 200mg/day) but until it gets below the double digit level, it isn't really what is considered "low". Maybe that is why your dr isn't reacting to your concerns. There is no need for it to be in the 30+ range, even though it may make you feel better. I hope they call you back and talk this through with you!

  • I'm sorry this is worrying you.  With suppositories, you don't necessarily see evidence of them in your P4.... only with PIO.  If you have any spotting I would fuss, but if you hcg continues to look good, you could definitely be okay.

  • Your RE needs to discuss this with you and give you a valid reason for "not worrying" about it, otherwise you need to find a new RE.
  • My RE didn't check my progesterone level with betas.  She said progesterone is a pulsatory hormone and can vary a lot.  Even though the 20 is lower than the others, you could have been coming up or going down on a hormone "wave," I guess.  Like PP's said, if you start to spot or it continues to drop, I would probably be more concerned.
