Babies: 3 - 6 Months

sleep deprivation is getting to me

So I think my LO is going through the "4 month wakeful" but its been 1.5-2 weeks already (no signs of stopping) and he has NEVER slept good through the night. Usually by the time I get to bed he is up every 2 hours. I am getting extremely tired and lo is finally getting to where he sleeps unswaddled so maybe he will be able to soothe himself back to sleep soon?

I have been only getting 4-5 hours of sleep a day since he was born and I no longer get naps since I am at school all day.

Re: sleep deprivation is getting to me

  • Can you have someone watch him during the day while take a nap on the weekend? I had to do it a few times - I pumped a bottle and my neighbor took her for a walk while I napped. It's not much but helps.

  • I could have written this post. I am so tired, and every night before bed I get anxious. And then when I'm awake for hours I get really weepy, and just want to cry. (Sometimes I do). I'm hoping it ends soon, otherwise I'm going to end up having a wreck on the way to work one of these days.

And as for what pp said, I can take a nap on the weekend, but that doesn't help me the rest of the week. I need to put a serious dent in my 4 month sleep deficit soon!!

  • I feel ya....my LO is up every hour. This morning I brushed my teeth with Neosporin instead of toothpaste. I'm soooo tireddddd!

  • I am dying over here too. I usually go to bed shortly after my son does because that's when he does his longest stretch. It used to be 4-5 hours but now over the past two weeks it's been 2-3 and then up every 2 hours. I am so tired I am getting awful headaches and sometimes can't fall back asleep. I EBF him and my mom is telling me to switch to formula because my siblings and I were all sleeping 8 hours straight by now. I also started working part time earlier this month, so every day my husband or I are working. It was nice when I was on maternity leave and he was off because then I could sleep in but now on his days off, I work. I am trying not to feel discouraged. I guess it can only get better!

  • I am also loosing my mind over here as well. My poor husband has been my emotional punching bag since I had our LO. We had a traumatic c-section and never recovered from  "recovery" and everyday I cry at least once or yell. Taking a shower, eating, sleeping, dressing etc. on and on is on proportions with Macgyver type frenzy. Sleep is non existent unless i sleep the first few hours my lil boy does and then i am up every 1-2 hours. I finally started dreaming again about two weeks ago. I have grown accustom to the standing over the crib-athon. I even have the acne around my chin from resting my head on my hand all night on the railing. Its amazing, even as a college student doing all night binges-this is nothing compared to having a baby. You literally become a raving lunatic zombie.
