Indiana Babies

we're home!

I couldn't post from the hospital b/c if wouldn't let me log in.  The last few days have been quite an adventure!  My water broke at 3 on Wednesday, and we got to the hospital a little before four.  You definitely know when it breaks--I was gushing everywhere!  I started to change shorts, and then I had to change them again and was dripping all over the car and on my way into the hospital.

They started giving me pitocin, and we were stuck at 4 for a while.  We finally got up to 9 1/2, and she didn't want to budge.  Finally at 4:30 a.m. we started pushing, and at 6:30 the dr. said she thought if we pushed for 2 more hours we would be back in the same situation, so she asked what I thought.  I told her to do the c-section if she thought it was the best bet.

So, Jocelyn Grace was born at 7:45 am.  Right after they got her out, I told them I was feeling sick, and about 15 seconds later started projectile puking up something green.  That was definitely the worst part of it!

Breastfeeding was super easy at first, but then that night she was so sleepy and had trouble latching.  She lost weight, so we had to supplement w/formula.  The first time we used the feeder, then the next day we switched to a mini-bottle--feeding her first then adding 15-20 mL.  That's working well and her weight is getting better.   We debated a day between Katelyn & Jocelyn, but then we decided she's definitely a Josie.  Off to feed her!

  • I was so excited, when I had my OB appt on Thursday, the first thing I asked Dr Jim was who was on call the night before!

I think Dr P would be a good doctor to have there. Compassionate but also very level headed!  From what you describe, your labor progressed just like mine.  So I hope you are feeling OK and your recovery is quick.  For me every week I made a huge leap to getting back to normal and it went quicker than I thought!

  • I am glad you are home and all is going well. I love the name!

When you describe your water breaking, it sounds exactly like my experience. I had a towel between my legs trying to figure out what to put on b/c i had already soaked thru my shorts. I soaked thru the towell, and the  new shorts I put on. DH put garbage bags down in the car so I wouldn't soak the seat.

I'm sorry you puked, it's  no fun having to feel that way. I puked twice when I was in labor and remember that being horrible.

    Congrats again!

  • I'm glad you're home!!  I'm also glad you named her Jocelyn.  I love it!!!  I puked during my c/s too.  And during labor.  And afterwards.  And the next day.  Yeah, that's no fun.  Enjoy the first few days!!!

Dr K was when I first got there, but Dr. P came on at 6.  Did you know she's leaving?  I guess she has family in Atlanta and is joining a just gyn practice there.  Dr. Cline & Jim were there for my hospital visits. He took my staples out today so I don't have to come back tomorrow.  I told Todd today that I was so happy with our experience between the practice and the hospital that if we have another I think I actually want to stay there instead of switching to community.  It was also super convenient for my family & Laurie and Todd's mom works down the street so that was great too.

My dad sent my brother with the video camera to record her coming home--am excited to see what they put together.  He is such a proud uncle and was really excited that I put her in the outfit he bought her.  Just took a nap and the rest of the family is all still sleeping.
