Anyone down to 1 nap already?

Mine seems to want to transition...  I'm worried that she still really needs the sleep and that it's more the outside influences (daycare distractions) that are pushing her to 1 nap.

Any thoughts?

Re: Anyone down to 1 nap already?

  • We are, for the most part. Like once a week he'll take 2 naps, but DS has weaned himself down to one morning nap a day. It ranges from 30 minutes to 3 hours...it has been rough, but I think we're getting there on getting his night sleep right again.

  • Dd is down to bed at 8, wake up at 7, nap from 915950 on the dot, and an afternoon nap from 115330 but if we have something to do in the mornings she can get by with a 510 mom nap in the car! She did this on her own.
  • DS has dropped to one most days. He stays home with me so he kind of makes his own schedule, he has started sleeping later so only one nap now.

If he wakes up early, he usually still wants a morning nap though

  • DD2 went to one nap about 3-4 weeks ago on her own.  She goes down between 11:30a-12:30p and sleeps for 3 hours.  She goes to bed between 7-8p and sleeps until 7am.

  • We are still doing two.  I think my kids are just sleepers.  DS didn't drop his second nap until 16 months(he dropped the third nap at 13 months).  I don't expect DD to wait that long, but she definitely likes and needs her 2nd nap.

  • DD usually still takes 3 naps!

  • She's just starting to drop her third nap. She goes to bed between 7 and 8 and during the week I wake her at 530 to nurse her before daddy takes her to daycare. She used to take 2 solid naps at daycare then a short one at home, now she's taking a later nap at daycare and then usually goes down soon after we get home 3ish, for a couple hours. I think it will be a while before she drops down to 1.

This would be seriously nice.  DS sleeps from 7-6 and naps from about 12:30 - 3:30, so what you have above would pretty much have my 2 kids on the exact same schedule

  • DS just started only wanting 1 nap. I tried for about a week to keep 2 but he would just play in his crib and talk to himself during that first one. So I gave up and now we both are much happier with only 1. He goes to bed at 8:15 and sleeps until 6 before getting up for a bottle. Then he goes back to bed until about 9:30. Nap is usually about 1:30 to 3:30. We also have things x2 per week where he has to be up by 8 am so he then takes about a 45 minute morning nap in the car on those days.

  • We're getting there, but not by my influence and I really think she needs to still be taking 2.

Last week she kept falling asleep two times a day while nursing, and I'd leave her for about 30mins before I'd try to break the latch and lay her down. Most times she'd fight me when I went to break the latch, and the times she'd let me I'd go to lay her down and she instantly wake up screaming and wouldn't sleep anymore.

Then starting this weekend she would still fall asleep nursing, this time only one of the times though but she would break the latch herself and then I was able to lay her down on the couch for a decent nap.

Trying to get her to take naps the past 2 weeks have been hell!

Does your DS consistently take 3 hour naps?  Any secrets?  My 2 yearold takes at least an hour and a half nap each day, but it can extend to 3 hours.  His nap length is pretty unpredictable excepting that it is never shorter than 1.5 hours.

  • How do you know when they're ready to drop a nap? DS takes two, but has now stopped sleeping through the night.  A friend suggested dropping a nap might solve that problem, but he still takes two willingly.

His naps are slightly shorter at daycare than they are at home, but they are pretty consistently > 2.5 hours. We're not doing anything special, really.  At about age 2, naps were pretty difficult and we had some no nap days where he would just refuse, but we mustered through.  A lot of people told us he was ready to be done with naps and I'm glad we didn't give up because he really does need that nap and naps better now than he ever has.

Well, DD has been taking her morning nap later and later and often refuses the afternoon nap

I kind of doubt dropping a nap would help with STTN.  In fact, my big worry with dropping a nap is that it will have the opposite effect.

It has in our house. Of course, we've been dealing with illness, teeth, and other stuff, but I think I'm going to blame in on the 1/2 hour nap he takes at day care. The other day, he didn't take one at all. Fun for us!

  • I cant even imagine only one nap. LO takes her first nap 2 hours after she wakes up for 1-2hours. Her 2nd nap is 2-3hrs after she wakes up from her first one and is 1.5 - 2.5 hrs. I do wish she would got to bed a little later. We usually start bedtime a little before 6 and she is asleep before 630. It's such a rush to get her dinner and have daddy time before she gets cranky. I'm not about to mess with her wanting to sleep & have it backfire when she's overtired and won't sleep though.

I haven't had too much trouble with nap refusal.  He often asks to take his nap when he is ready (at about 11AM give or take 15 minutes).  I refuse to give up on naptime/rest time.  My grandmother had mandated rest time in her home when my mom was growing up.  My mom always remarks on how smart she was to protect her sanity like that.  Once kids got older they could read quietly during that time.

this is really close to my LO's sched. he'll be 10 months tomorrow. his first nap is now 1-1.5 hours and his second is the same. he goes to bed between 5:45 and 6:30 and is up anywhere from 6:30 to 7:15. he was taking half hour naps for a few months but finally seems to be lengthening. (WOO HOO!). i can't even imagine him going to one nap now, but every kid is different.
