These were the final two DH and I had on our list. We ultimately decided on Ella because I thought it would age better than Emma. But I love them both!

I know they're both popular, but of the two, I'm only sick of hearing Ella. In addition to a stand-alone name, it's a go-to nn for several other names (Eleanor, Eloise, Isabella, etc.), so I think it's use is more common than the SSA list shows.
My neice is Ella and my BF's daughter is Emma, so I wouldn't use either. I must say, I'm not a fan of either. I would consider Elizabeth or Emily; and the relevant nicknames that could fall out of those.

Elisabeth is a possibility. But this post was more to get an idea about Emma and Ella. Emily is not a name I can use. I'm one of those people blessed with a profession that sometimes makes picking names difficult.
Ella without a doubt. Emma sounds too young me, I have a hard time seeing Emma as an adult name.
I feel the exact opposite. Ella feels very young and is a nick name for so many other names. Emma feels very classic to me. I may be bias, but Emma has a lovely romantic feel to it:)

Re: Ella or Emma
While both are NMS, I prefer Ella!

I vote Emma.

I like Ella too, but I think Emma sounds less cutesy.

Personally, I couldn't use either name
I know two Emma's, two Ella's (though one is my cousin in her 30's) and an Ellie. Besides my cousin they are all under 3-4.
I actually like both names but they are quite popular. I think Ella has a bit of an advantage to being less popular.
