A friend of mine has a June baby, and she started him on rice cereal when he turned 3 months old. Her pedi recommends starting when a baby reaches 4 months old or 14 lbs (whichever comes first). My friend's baby was almost 14 lbs at 2 months, but was advised to wait until he was 3 months old since he hit the weight requirement pretty early. I know different pedis have different philosophies when it comes to starting solids, but I've never heard of a weight based system before. Has anyone else run into this? I must admit that I find it a little odd.
