I thought I'd let everyone know my experience with getting my breast pump. I had called prior to baby and they had said it was covered if medically necessary.
I had the baby Monday and called this morning regarding the pump. The insurance didn't even ask why I needed it, they just told me to have my doctor fax them a prescription stating I needed an electric breast pump for feeding issues. I called my doctor, spoke to a nurse who never even asked if I was actually having feeding issues, and she sent it while we were on the phone.
An hour later they called and told me it was ready to be picked up at the local medical supply store. I ended up with the Medela Advanced Double Electric Pump with carry bag for a copay of $26.
It was super easy! Definitely worth a try! I my experience, I have CIGNA Health Insurance and the pump was covered under durable medical equipment.
Re: FYI Regarding Insurance and Breast Pump
Wow. That's awesome. Congrats!
My insurance unfortunately doesn't cover breast pumps at all; even if medically necessary, and I can't wait until January 1 for the Obamacare rules to kick in, so I just bought mine out of pocket.
My insurance covers breastpumps, but thanks to nObamacare, my insurance can't actually cover it now until our policy renews, in March
Thankful my sister sent me one!
