Weight gain so far...

I had a doctors appointment yesterday and I got scolded because I have gained more than I was supposed to these past few months. I will say that I have been eating a lot. Everything just tastes good now!

I was 104lbs at 5'5 and I am now 130lbs

How about you ladies? And what have you been eating?

Re: Weight gain so far...

  • Weren't you underweight at 105? I'm not pulling up a calculator, but that doesn't sound like inappropriate weight gain to me. What has your doctor recommended that you gain?

I'm also 5'5", started at 148, and am now 165.

  • I have an appt. on monday so I wont find out until then how much weight I have gained but I think it has been about 10lbs. I am overweight to start so I have been trying really hard to keep my weight down. I just started eating healthier and trying not to give in to feeling like I can eat more than I should. I was doing weight watchers before I got pregnant so that helps me think about what I'm eating. I havent been tracking my points or anything but just being aware is good.
  • I'm 5'8", started at 120lbs. As of my last appointment I was 142lbs. My doctor is fine with my weight gain since I was slightly underweight to begin with.

Honestly lately I'm not hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I do try to eat healthy as much as I can though.

  • I am 5'4 and started at 125. I've gained 6 lbs and am 28 weeks. I don't watch what I eat and haven't changed my diet but I have always eaten a ton of veggies. It depends on your body. Everyone is different. As long as your baby is growing at a normal rate then you're fine.
  • At my 24 wk. appt I was up 19 lbs. I'm not small to begin with, but I'm on track to gain about the same I did with the first two Pgs.

  • I'm about 5'5" I was around 148 when I got pregnant...then went on a cruise the week I found out, so when I got back we took the weight of 152 at the Dr. office as my start weight. More than I wanted, but oh well.

My weight at my 25 week appointment was 178 which made me bawl my eyes out at 26 lb. They don't seem concerned and haven't said a word. I am VERY concerned and didn't want to gain more than 30, but I'm way past fixing that now so I walk every day or do a pregnancy workout DVD and try to eat better.

Yes, that is underweight for someone who is 5'5". I think the issue is probably the quicker weight gain than her OB wanted, but I really don't understand why OB's get so strict with the weight gaining as long as it isn't posing actual health risks.

I'm up at least 24 lbs at 29 weeks.

  • I'm at 29lbs as of my last appt Monday. That's what my scale said from the day I got a bfp. According to the OB, based on my first appt, it's 25.

  • I had an appointment today at exactly 26 weeks and I am up 18 pounds. I've been hungry all the time in the past 2 weeks, and haven't had the greatest eating habits. BUT I have stayed active and am still running 3 miles 3-4 times per week. I know my weight gain would be less if I monitored my intake; I'm using my excercise as an excuse to indulge, but I'm okay with my weight gain and overall health, and so is my doctor.

Yes I was underweight. I believe she was concerned because I gained 11lbs since my last appointment. She said that if I kept it up and gained 11lbs each month until my pregnancy I'd be in big trouble.

And in addition to that, she said my son is a little bigger than average. I figure it's because of my habit of eating all the time now :/

  • I was up 11.5 lbs at 29 weeks, which I'm pretty happy with. Gaining steadily since the 2nd tri, but no major jumps so far.

  • i'm 5'3" and started out slightly overweight at 148lbs, as of this past Tuesday i'm at 170.  Ugh!  it's more than i wanted to gain, and i'm sure i have another 13lbs or so in my future.   but i've been indulging a LOT since i got pg.  i'm also trying to get in as much good food as possible, but honestly - it's FUN not to worry so much about what i'm eating.

so far my ob/midwife only said something about my weight gain when i asked if it was too much (and she said it was a bit much at the time).  since then i've learned my lesson:  i don't ask, they don't say anything, and everyone is happy, or at least blissfully ignorant.

i love hearing about everyone's weight gain, or lack of it - it's true, we're all so incredibly different.

losing the weight will be un-fun, but putting it on has been AWESOME.

  • Gained 29 pounds so far, I guess I should feel bad but I totally don't. I ate half a pizza last night! I just keep telling myself it will all come off in the end. Also my belly is freakin huge. I get comments everyday about being "about to pop".... Yeah 3 more months to go! I am going to be a blimp!
  • I've gained about 35 lbs so I don't even want to think about what I will end up weighing by the end of this pregnancy.

  • I've only gained about 5 pounds so far. Don't know why and it worries the daylights out of me. I was overweight before I got pregnant, but this is the least that I've ever gained by a mile. I know with my last DD I didn't gain as much as with my 2 DS's, but still. I'm eating and we're not talking small amounts either. I walk about 30 minutes a day.

  • As of my 24 week I had gained ten pounds. I'm 5'8 and started at 140. My 28 week is next Thursday and am hoping to be up to 155 by then. I want my baby healthy. I try to drink chocolate milk daily to add cals to put on some weight. I still eat a pretty normal diet besides that.

  • I'm quite a bit overweight to begin with, about 50lbs or so. With DS I was the same weight pre pregnancy and I still gained 40lbs, that was way too much. This time, I'm only up 5-6 and I'm so excited I won't be as much of a whale at delivery.

  • I was overweight to begin with, but I am currently about 8 pounds under my starting weight.  I didn't eat well before the pregnancy and have made a lot of improvements.  I'm not trying to lose weight, just have a healthy pregnancy.  Baby is gaining just fine, so my OB isn't worried.  I've got the extra pounds to spare ;)

  • I'm 5' short Smile and started out at 100lbs. At my last appointment I was already up 25 lbs. My doctor said it wasn't a problem because I was underweight to begin with. I find out how many lbs i've gained since my last appointment on Tuesday.

  • I'm up 12 pounds as of Monday.  I started out on the upper end of my acceptable weight range, then lost several pounds from m/s.  My doctor's office tracks weight gain from my starting weight, so according to them I'm only up 3 pounds.  I measure from when I actually started gaining, though.  I try to eat mostly healthy stuff - lots of protein, veggies, and fruit - but also allow myself more treats now than I do when not pregnant.

  • I just came from my appointment, and I've gained 12 pounds, most of which was gained over the last month.  My doctor told me to "slooooowwww down", which I understand.  But I'm going to go eat an entire pizza.

This! When my doctor came into the room I said, "lets talk about my weight" and he told me to relax and that I was fine. He said there is a guideline of what you should gain and that I had surpassed it, however, both baby and I are healthy...well that is until I got my GD results this morning. Either way, he told me he knew a lady that gained 90 lbs in her pregnancy and both mom and baby were perfectly healthy.

  • By and large, your body is going to do what it needs to do to give you a healthy baby.

That said, I'm up 13lbs at 29 weeks. I lost a bit in the beginning, but have gained one lb per week for a few months now. I eat what sounds good, but am now trying to eat more balanced each day since I realized that I was missing some key pieces (certain vitamins, veggies) in my diet. Oops.

  • I was up 8.5lbs at 28 weeks and 4 days. I eat more often but less food since I have gotten pregnant. I find that I get full really fast but that I am hungry more often.

  • I started from 147 at 5'7" tall which was considered as normal weight near overweight.  I'm weighing 160 in my last appt at 29w2d.  The nurse didn't say good to my weight which she normally said because I lost a pound but i had a morning appt instead of late appointment in my previous one which I normally eat a lot of whole grain and high fiber for lunch and afternoon snacks.  i think it can make a difference.

  • I'm 5'9" and weighed 155 lbs pre-pregnancy. I'm up to 180 lbs, so about 25 lbs. I eat good, balanced, healthy meals during the week, but I also usually treat myself to dessert after lunch and/or dinner, which doesn't help things. :P I don't snack in between meals, usually because I don't have time. On the weekends I'm a little more lax with my food choices, I indulge in pizza and macaroni and cheese (my favorites) at least once a week. My doctor has gently suggested I watch my weight, but not because it's unhealthy for the baby - she just said if I gain more than 30-35 pounds I'll have a harder time getting it off after the baby comes (i.e., I'll have to diet to get back to pre-pregnancy weight). I'm planning on breastfeeding, so I'm not terribly worried. My personal goal is trying to stay away from seeing that 200 number on the scale.
