How many crib sheets do you really NEED?

So the babie's r us guide says 4-6.  To me that seems a bit excessive.  I mean we only have one set of sheets for our bed. (I wash weekly and put them on the bed the same day without issue)

I realize that we do not have accidents or spit up in our bed, so I know we will need more than 1.

What are your thoughts?

Re: How many crib sheets do you really NEED?

  • 4-6 is definitely not necessary. We have 3 and really, I think 2-3 is plenty. I can count on 1 hand the number of times that I've needed to change sheets in the middle of the night. I would start with a couple and you can always pick up more if you have the need to.

  • We only had 2 and never had an issue. Then again, we never had more than 1 blowout or spit up disaster in one night. I feel like with all of the spitting up in the newborn stage we were doing laundry really often so we always had a clean sheet. If you don't have a washer/dryer at home maybe 3 would be a good idea.
  • Everyone I have talked to says they like to have 3.  You definitely need to plan for middle of the night sheet changes, so 2 are necessary.  I will want a spare in case 1 gets completely ruined, but I am a total planner so you may be happy with 2.

  • Yeah I saw that at BRU as well. I ended up getting the one that came with my bedding set, and I registered for two more. I think that will be enough. If my kid is really barfy & I'm finding myself unable to keep up with the laundry, I'll just go get a couple more.
  • For me it is three. One for the crib, one for the washer and one just in case the crib one gets dirty (pee, bottle spill, poo explosion, drool, spit up etc) while the other is getting washed. I am kinda lazy and the amount of days it takes me to get the thing in the wash, in the dryer, and back in DSs room can be anywhere from a few hours to a week lol!

We also send DS to Montessori and they request we bring a crib sheet for his cot so I am back down to two.

  • I made two fitted sheets for the crib and registered for 2-3 of the Ultimate Crib Sheet.  You can easily switch out the ultimate crib sheet without taking out the mattress because it sits on top of the mattress (you can still see the fitted sheet underneath it and on the sides). It seemed like a good idea to me. =)
  • We layer. One mattress protector, crib sheer, mattress protector, crib sheet. This way when/if there's a leak, just tear off the top layer and you have a set waiting. With that being said we have two of the mattress protector things the circo brand from target has been my favorite! and three crib sheets. HTH!

  • 2-3 max. We have four and really only use two of them. The other two I send to daycare, but could have bought a lot less expensive sheets for that!

  • We got 3 for DS. He's 19 months old now and still in the crib and I haven't ever wished I had more. I think we could probably have been fine with 2 honestly.

This.  DS was never much on spitting up or leaking through diapers.  We have 2 sheets and 2 waterproof covers.  However, I think the 2nd waterproof cover is still in it's original packing.  I'd suggest starting with 2-3 sheets and then adding more if needed if you end up with a leaker.

  • We have had 2 sheets for DD's crib and it has never been a problem.  It is nice to have a clean sheet on hand in case DD pees through her diaper in the middle of the night.

  • We always had 3. Both my kids would spit up after feeds so I had times when I had to change them in the middle of the night.

  • honestly you can never have too many lol. We had 3 or 4 (i think) and they are still on the crib now (my DD is 4 and we got them at my baby shower for her) bc i watch a little boy during the week who is still in a crib. honestly i dont think its how many, its the quality. if you only have a few of the really nice ones that are higher thread counts, they really hold up well to being washed and used over and over again. They were kinda pricy when we registered for them, but now im super glad we did! we've gotten our money's worth thats for sure!! Oh, and we had a few of the cheaper ones that were like $9 for a pack of two....i had to throw them out when DD was born bc they were all streched out and frayed at the elastic corners.

  • We had 3 but 2 likely would have been enough.  Although DD never experienced diaper blowouts.  I guess if that was happening often then more than 3 would have been needed.

  • We had 3, and that was plenty.  I think 2 would be just one to few, 4 wouldn't be excessive, but I really don't think you need any more than that at all. I plan to get 3 new ones for this baby because we use DS's sheets for daycare now.

  • We have 3.. Id say 4 at most.. We also have a waterproof layer around our crib mattress as well as one you can put on the bed (like a cover except it has waterproofing layer under a little quilted part)  Sometimes esp when potty training DD or lots of leaks in a row, I'd put one sheet over the regular mattress that was waterproof, then put the waterproof sheet on then put another sheet on.  That way if we had a leak, I could literally pull the sheet/waterproof sheet layer off and voila new sheet ready to go!!  Best idea ever! Works like a charm!

  • I agree with everyone else who said 2-3.  We had much more than that (more because we ended up getting a lot more than we registered for) and I honestly still have crib sheets in the package that have never been washed or used.

If you do end up in a situation where your baby spits up a lot or something of that nature you could always pick up a few extras later on to have on hand as backups, but I'd only register for 3 max.

  • Um. 2. I like a back up incase there is throw up at night. That has happened 1 time in 2.5 years. I honestly wash his sheet once a week, and put them back on when the wash is over. I haven't used most of the sheets we have.

  • I think BRU oversells everything.  You know if they sell 6 crib sheets or 4 towels or whatever, it's more money in their pocket.  I noticed with registering, I really had to consider me and my family.  Like, I also didn't need 4 or 5 strollers, thanks BRU!
  • I have 2. If there's an accident, I put the other one on the mattress and wash the dirty one.

Or in the middle of the night save it for the morning to wash.
