I am meeting for the first time with his OT today...is it strange to feel bittersweet about this?
DS's evaulation recently showed sensory issues.
I'm glad that he is getting the help he needs, and that all of these years it wasn't just me feeling like a bad mom because I had difficulty handling DS.
We tried two different preschools prior to getting DS evaluated. I found as DS got to 2.5-3yo there became a baseline everywhere for expectations in behaviors in the children (in both e-boards as well as the school system), and DS in some cases wasn't meeting those expectations all the time.
Now I am armed with information on ways to help DS in this educational journey - before I felt quite helpless. Private preschools were saying that they simply couldn't handle him, and no one (including myself) knew why. One implied an underlying issue, but didn't recommend a medical evaluation - their execution of said meeting was just insensitive. The other one said that its just his maturity level, and maybe next year it would be different.
Its been a very hard & long 7mo. for us...but now DS is getting the help he needs & and I'm glad to find this support group.
Re: I'm so glad to find this board.
I'm glad you've found the appropriate help your child needs. Welcome! My little guy has sensory issues too and his OT has been a godsend. It's really helped a ton.
