EBFers: how often is LO eating?

How often Is your LO eating now? During the day and at night? Just an average because I know it's not the same everyday. I feel like D is eating more often than normal and wondering if this is causing her sleek issues. I don't think it's a supply issue because i still leak [very occasionaly] but I have been pumping less. She still nurse every 2 to 3 hours all day and night, occasionaly will go 4 hours.

Re: EBFers: how often is LO eating?

  • Mine seems to be eating less lately.  He gets 4-5 feeds in a 24 hour period.  Usually every 3-4 hours during the day, and either STTN or 1 feed overnight.  I'm not really concerned because he is a chubber.  I wouldn't worry if I were you, if you're leaking then it's not a supply issue - she's probably just growing:)

  • Every 2 to 3 hours during the day, max is 4 if she magically takes a long nap. She sleeps at night from about 7pm until anytime after 5am. Today it was 5:15am but I'd say most often it's 6 or 630 with 930 being her ultimate record.

  • Still every 2 hours during the day, but only twice overnight. FWIW, leaking and pumping are not good indicators of supply.

  • C eats every 2 to 3 hours. Sometimes at daycare, she will go a four hour stretch, but that's rare. She goes down around 7:30 for the night and usually wakes up once, sometimes twice for a feed.

  • every 3 hours generally. At night I will get a 5-6 hour stretch out of her sometimes. Lately not so much. Last night she ate at 8pm then bed, woke at 11, 2 and 5. blah

I wonder if I don't have enough milk, how would one know? She seems happy when she eats, she seems satisfied when she's done yet she still wants to eat so frequently?!

    I am tired.

  • She eats 4-6 times in a 24 hour period.  Days with daycare she always eats 6 times, on the weekend it is 4 or 5 times.

She could just be a frequent eater, or you could have lower fat content in your milk.  There is really no way to know but if she is gaining fine I wouldn't worry.  Really the only way to know would be to switch cold turkey to formula and see if she sleeps better, but I wouldn't recommend that haha

This is exactly how I feel!!! I don't know how you know.. I guess weight gain and diaper output? Fwiw, she went to only pooping every few days around when the sleep issues stated.... Hmmm...

  • Grayson is eating every 2-3 hours during the day on average.  Occasionally he will go a bit longer.  At night, for the last week he has been going a 6 hour stretch, then a three hour after that, then up for the day.  I BF him when he wakes at night.  He was on and off up every two hours the entire last month and it was exhausting!  My pumping is wacky too, sometimes normal, sometimes less for no clear reason.

  • Usually every 2.5-3.5 hrs during the day then one 6-7 hour stretch at night and back to every 2.5-3.5 hrs.

  • The only way I feel I can sort of gauge my supply is with pumping output which is probably not a good way to gauge supply..

Some days I get 12-13oz at work and some days 15-16oz despite pumping the same amount always. Plus I eat and drink the same amount in general, I am a creature of habit! It's weird.

But she was 85th % for height and 65% for weight at 4 month check up, so I feel like she MUST be getting plenty? she's hardly a fat baby by any means but she looks fine, not super bony or anything. Long and lean looking. And she still poops multiple times most days.

I am thinking, not long until she starts eating food and maybe that will help.. give her an avocado before bed or something lol.

This (and mine's a chunky monkey as well)

  • My LO still nurses every 2-3 hours, pretty much around the clock.  The first stretch of night sleep has started getting to be more like 4 hours, but then it's right back to every 2-3 until he wakes for the day.  Bed sharing FTW in my house! haha.

And I really shouldn't say "still", because there was a time when he was only waking 2 times consistently throughout the night.  And then the 4MW hit us like a ton of bricks... 8 weeks ago! .... and things haven't been the same since.

     I'm tired, too.

  • He eats 7-8 times a day, depending on whether he takes 3 or 4 bottles at daycare. That includes one MOTN feed between 3:30 and 5 am, and one brief feed right before he goes to bed since he gets a full feed an hour earlier. When I'm with him on the weekends, he nurses every 2 1/2 - 3 hours unless he takes a long nap.

  • LO nurses every 2-3 hours during the day (she used to nurse every 1-2) and now goes a 6-8 hour stretch at night.

  • DD eats off of one side first thing when she gets up (usually between 6:30 and 7:00), I pump the other.  She takes a bottle of BM at daycare mid-morning, I come to feed her somewhere between 11:00 and noon.  Another bottle of BM mid-afternoon.  I pick up at 4:30, and feed her when we get home.  She will eat late evening, and then again right before bed.

In short, about six feeds in a 24 hour period.

  • C eats every 3 hours pretty much on the dot with a long stretch at bedtime. Its been this way for awhile now.

  • DS goes every 2-3 hrs during the day. He can go a little longer if we are running errands and he is distracted. At night, he can go up to 8 hrs, but the norm is 6 and every 2 after (2-3 wakes total).

  • DD eats every 2-3 hours during the day. She wakes up to eat twice a night (very rarely she will only wake up once). I'm tired too.

PS - The answers of all the bumpies using bump mobile made me giggle. At first, I was like "Whoa! Your baby eats 23 times a day!" but then the fog cleared from my brain.
