According to my MW I hit the genetic lottery (Her words) and am predisposed to get Gestational Diabetes, due to my family history. So I get to be tested twice, once this upcoming weekend at 11 weeks, then again at 24 weeks!
This is all my Dad?s fault it comes from his side of the family, and I HATE having my blood drawn! To make it up to me I?m going to have him buy me a pony.
Anyone else a genetic winner and needing to be tested early?
Re: Glucose testing
I actually asked for an early test because I feel like I'm not processing sugar very well right now. I know I would fail the glucose test big time right now, so they just did an A1C blood draw last week to see what my averages were for the past 3 months and we'll start there. I did not have GD with my last pregnancy, but I did fail the one hour test. Then I had to do the 3 hour test....that's always fun......fasting, then super gross sugary water, then getting your blood drawn 4 times in 3 hours. Yippy! On that one, I failed the 1 hour but passed 2 and 3 hour tests so that determined I was just processing sugar slowly but still didn't have GD.
I'm also curious what they determine to be your winning lotto numbers. My mom's family has a very strong history of diabetes but it hasn't come up at all as being a factor that leads me to have a greater chance of being diabetic during pregnancy.
My Grandfather, My Father and his two brothers all have type two diabetes. I must admit they are all big guys, and that none of them try all that hard to control it without insulin.
The MW just felt it was worth the extra test to be safe.
Me too! YAY!
I was tested last week and will be again around 24/26 and 30/32. I passed my test last week so one down, 2 to go. Despite my genetic slurry of misfortune they let me slide last time around since everything we going okay so I only had to do 2 with DS but then he had to go and be a giant monster baby (10 lbs 8 oz) so I get the bonus testing this time. Let me tell you, I'm super jazzed.
