Last night during the storm, I went with L down to the basement. I heard a loud crashing noise and ran with him to the shower stall down there. Called 911 and it ended up being a tree top that broke off from a neighbor's tree. DH got home from work at the same time as the fire department arrived and he nearly had a heart attack.
Guys are here now cutting it up and DH is leaving work early to repair our fence because we have a pool. I am missing the NY meet up and bummed.
Re: What a night....and morning!
Oh no!! So glad you are ok.
Crazy storms here. I think we might be in the same area? My basement flooded
Thanks , guys. The damage isn't too bad. It's all things that can be fixed. The fence at our property line came down , the garage is damaged a bit. I think it snapped off the top of my birch tree and hibiscus tree, but won't be able to tell until they remove the big tree top off of everything. It could have been worse. Thankfully, the whole tree didn't fall or it would have been major.
The house next door is abandoned. We've always been worried about their trees. We don't have big trees on our property and the surrounding trees are ones that line the property line. They are really old and very tall oak trees. I think the hurricane last year and the Nor'Easters, the winter before last, have compromised some of them. Someone from the Town is coming this afternoon to inspect the property. Just so grateful it didn't hit the house.
I think I remember you saying you are in CT? I'm right across the Sound on the Northshore of Long Island. The weather was nuts last night. Is your basement ok? DH said the main road through our town was flooded out when he got home last night.
Close, NJ!
Yeah it is ok right now, just really damp. Could be worse though ya know? Its a new house, so we figured something like this would happen. Have to christen it with a problem of course!!
I cant believe that happened to you last night though. Your poor DH, i would have had a hard attack too! Trees fell down and snapped here too but in the backyard, and didnt get close to our house, thank goodness.
Yikes...
That's so scary. Thank goodness you guys are ok. Sorry about the fence :-(
