Really??

So I'm friends on FB with a gal that a close family friend of DH's family. She's a super sweet gal and we just saw her a few weeks ago at her son's wedding in Cali (we live in Oregon but DH grew up down there).

So I posted the cute profile pic we got at our a/s yesterday and got all the fun comments about our handsome boy, etc.

Backup a bit, while we were at the wedding they were asking if we had any names picked out yet and we said no. They asked if we were going to name it Michael if it's a boy since a bunch of his friends have all done that and they all have the same name as their dads. It's something that DH has wanted to do but I'm not sold omit yet so no, we haven't decided on a name.

Back to the picture... She proceeds to comment and say "Baby Michael is so handsome!"

Really?! Are you just naming our child now??? I was so overly annoyed. I immediately deleted her comment. Thankfully it was late at night and I don't think anyone saw it. And I wrote her a private message explaining that we haven't named him yet so I deleted her comment. She hasn't written me back. Not sure if she hasn't gotten it or if she's annoyed. Oh well if she is. You don't just go around assuming names and posting them for the world to see.

Sorry, just had to vent :-P

Re: Really??

  • That probably would be annoying. My mom has done something similar and named our child "George"...so she comments on things calling him George. No offense to anyone that likes the name...but we are SO NOT naming him George.

  • Ahhh something similar happened to me. My SIL knows we have been struggling with names and we haven't shared our preferences with anyone. But she commented on a bump pic on FB and called the baby little "Juan Carlos" I was so flipping annoyed. I wanted to reply that if we were playing hot or cold with baby names, she would be in Antarctica. But I decided to retract my claws and ignore the comment. I still really want to delete it though.

  • That would be annoying.  It seems really strange to assume someone else's baby name.

  • My h is a III, so his entire family assumed our first was going to be a IV and did the same stuff - wrote on my fb posts about how cute "Will IV is". Even after we announced his name, some of his family refused to accept it and said they would wait until the baby was born to get the "official announcement".

People are idiots when it comes to naming babies. Just ignore them.

Ugh. So frustrating! It's also doubly frustrating that my DH wants to do it too. Lol. I want our boy to have his OWN name. I get confused enough with DH and FIL. I keep saying "Michael is a great middle name" and then smile sweety to DH afterwards. Lol. I need to come up with some killer alternatives
