way tmi not baby related question

Sorry to turn to you ladies for this, I though we were done with the Tmi questions about ourselves but I'm not sure where to turn. Is it okay to take stool softeners everyday? I'm sure its because my diet has been worse now that I'm pp but bm's are still bad. Not that I'm still sore from labor or anything. I feel like I'm dreading my first pp bm again everytime. It's painful and I usually bleed after. Sorry I know that's way Tmi. So I'm wondering if anyone has any issues still and if taking stool softeners everyday is okay or some remedy. I didn't have these problems while pregnant or prior to pregnancy I don't think. Thanks!

Re: way tmi not baby related question

  • I'm in the same boat.  Still taking stool softeners,drinking lots of water, eating lots of veggies, fruit, and fiber and am still constipated.   Also had no hemmies during pregnancy or after delivery, but developed them about 4wks pp.

  • I'm also in the same boat. They were actually incredibly painful for a few weeks, and the doctor prescribed some foam to reduce what she thought was inflammation inside... It was not fun to apply, but it made bm tolerable again. If it doesn't get better, you can talk to your doctor about it.

  • same problem here :(.  I still have a substantial hemorrhoid!  I dread going to the bathroom.  I take stool softeners 3-5 times a day.
  • Same here bleeding and all. I take 2 stool softeners daily.

  • I'm actually thinking about starting to retake the fibre supplements the hospital gave me. It's just too painful having BM and I think the hemoroid I got when pushing LO out is still hanging around at 10w pp.
  • Yup.  Most times I feel like there is a knife coming out of my ass.

  • My gastroenterologist said not to take those everyday, but rather drink lots of water and take Metamucil or the generic brand everyday.

  • I definitely still need them but I only take them on occasion. The hemorrhoids make having a BM horrible!  If I don't take them I usually have a BM that flares them up again, a very unpleasant lingering side effect of giving birth :(

  • I posted about this a while ago too...I'm 12 weeks pp, and I'm still dealing with this. I developed a fissure (cut on my you-know-where from a too big BM) about 3 weeks pp. It felt like I was pushing out broken glass every time I went and it would bleed. My midwife prescribed Anusol suppositories...NOT fun, but they help. I've been using them for 9 weeks. It's getting better, and I thought I had almost healed. But then I ventured out from my strict fiberous diet and it's back. :o( What helps me is the suppositories and Metamucil (the orange course kind, not the smooth or clear kind).

    My thoughts and heart are with ALL of y'all...I know how much it sucks...and sometimes for me it helps to simply know that I'm not alone in this.

  • I'm with y'all! I started psyllium fiber pills and fish oil; that has been helping some.

  • Jesus, you poor women! Luckily I'm not having problems, but I had major constipation issues in the past would go for a week w/o bm. I highly recommend probiotics. I eat chobani yogurt which has it, but now there are tons of probiotic capsules on the market. They saved my life, and were recommended by a gastro doc for me. Good luck, all of you! Instead of labor dust I wish you poo dust! ;

  • I'm so glad that I am not alone.while I was posting this I was like oh I'm probably the only one and I'm going to look like an idiot. But I am so glad you all responded. Thank you ladies!! If anyone is still reading this, do I call my ob for something to take?
  • Yes! My ob gave me proctogfoam which I didn't find to help very good. I don't think I did it right? I went to my regular dr couldn't get in to ob and he lanced one and gave me suppositories. so I use suppositories, witch hazel, prep h and I still cry every time. It's like pooping a cactus or a razor blade. Ouch ouch.
